Could someone please explain to me why we are spending hundreds of thousands of dollars fighting forest fires? Wouldn't it be more logical to use the firefighters and their equipment to protect homes, transmission towers and observatories and just let the forests burn? The news makes it sound like if we don't get those fires out every combustible thing in the entire world will be in ashes. Aren't forest fires nature's way of preparing the earth for new growth? Just wondering.
