The Never Ending Story
Last May we had our kitchen counters painted. https://mybloggers.com/nittineedles/kitchen_reno.html (copy & paste)
The idea was that it would be a whole lot cheaper than having them replaced. The guys sanded and filled the patches where DH had hit his hip rounding the corner and ripped off side bits of of the counter and the piece by the sink where water had gotten underneath and bubbled up and where the seams were coming apart and filling with kitchen crud.
One month after the work was done we found this:

and this:

and this:

I called the counter painters and they where very nice about it. They came back PDQ and fixed all three problem areas. The cause according to them? Apparently, my hand soap contained lye which ate the paint. I believe the made-in-China soap dispenser ate the paint as there is no way I could use a lye containing soap on my skin. Anyway, we waited another month for it to cure. The patch job was obvious and I wasn't happy but..... We literally babied that bloody counter and then we discovered this:

I called them again in July and they said they'd run out of my colour but had ordered it an would be contacting me in a week or ten days. I hadn't heard from them by early August and we were going away for three weeks so I called again and said I let them know when we got back. They said the paint had been back ordered and they should have it by the time we got home from vacation. When I called to let them know we were home I was afraid I'd be told they'd gone out of business or some such thing but no. The paint was in and they came out today to do the job. Instead of just another patch they are going to redo my entire counters and then seal it with some clear coat product that wasn't available when they first did the job. (I'm beginning to suspect we may have been their first customer and they weren't too sure of what they were doing.)
So, here I am, back in the basement waiting while they complete this all day job. At least I'm prepared, food wise, this time.

I prepared a cooler with items I would need from the fridge. Also stocked up on coffee, oatmeal, bread, mug, bowl and cutlery. I think I'm set for the day. DH has a business meeting so I don't have to concern myself with feeding him. I hope the counters look as good as the first time but last a bit longer.
