The Never Ending Reno

This house is a money pit. Now that there are no kids or dogs to mess it up, DH and I have raised our standards of what our home should look like. I don't want a show home. I still want it to look lived in but not by roaming packs of children and/or dogs. A newspaper casually placed on the coffee table. A basket of knitting strategically placed beside my favourite chair. I'll even allow what we affectionately call The Junk Counter in the kitchen. Right now it actually looks like that but most of our junk is still packed away in the basement. I spent some time on the phone this morning with the owner of the flooring store. You remember him? The motor mouth who should have been a used car salesman. I politly pointed out, again, that he had forgotten to include the second bathroom in the estimate. The first time I mentioned it he said there would probably be enough lino left for the bathroom. There wasn't. Now he has to order more and I demanded.....OK, would you believe whined and begged? that we pay the sale price even though the sale has been over for weeks. Much to my surprise and delight he said yes and made an appointment for Tuesday at 10 AM to come out and measure the forgotten bathroom.
Next I called my favourite carpenter to make sure he still wanted the job of cutting and installing base board molding in the entire upstairs and the basement hallway, molding around four doorways upstairs, installing eight bifold doors in closets and the laundry room and finishing the grungy ledge that runs the length of the stairs with some nice oak. He sounded happy for the work and will be over at noon on Wednesday to measure for all the molding.
Then we will be painting the walls that didn't get painted a few years ago. Not to mention the *shiver* pink bathrooms and I saw a lovely shower curtain and matching hooks today that would look wonderful with the new linoleum.
Yes, this house is a money pit but it's grown on us over the past 27 plus years and we like it.
