If It's Tood Good to Be True

Recently I researched a book on line, “The Power of Your Subconscious Mind” by Joseph Murphy. My thought, as you might guess, was to help heal myself through positive reinforcement. I chose a site, DiscountBookSale.com, that was selling it for $2.97 and no shipping. Wow, how good is that?

I got the book in due course and am reading it. I wanted to recommend the site so I looked it up on line again. Along with the other entries, there was a site that warned of an ongoing DiscountBookSale scam. The site is collecting defrauded consumers for a lawsuit.

During my hectic week, my bills have accumulated. I made a point of dealing with them today and I took a careful look at my Visa bill. I was billed $2.97 for the book; separately another entry for $1.00, not identified, and a third entry for $9.95, also not identified which, I learned from the scam alert, would be a never-ending and continuing monthly charge for a membership I did not sign for. The scammed consumers also said they could not get through to the “club”, when they tried to phone to have the charges dropped.

My Visa provider is sending me dispute papers to sign and they recommended I block my current card and they will send me a new one. I may also deduct the bogus charges from my payment. DiscountBookSale’s further use of my account to post charges will be denied.

I didn’t sign up for the lawsuit but it’s still an option.
I post this in case any of you are looking for books and see this “too good to be true” site.

Meanwhile, I have a book for $2.97, no shipping charge, and that should gall them since this “deal” was only intended to get me on the hook for monthly charges once they had my credit card number.

xx, Teal

Oh my goodness! Thanks for the heads-up. Any more, we have to look at our credit card accounts online just about every day to make sure of no extra charges.

Yes, I about hit the ceiling discovering a $24 shipping charge for one tiny (4x6") box of blueberry plants. Rip off. So much for cheap blueberries.

I buy my coffee, printing inkjet cartridges and most of my books from Amazon now, and at great discounts with good service. Sorry you had to go through this.

Amazon.com is my go-to bookseller. I'm wary of too good to be true deals, and appreciate the warning about DiscountBookSale.com. Uggh.

I still get email from Barnes & Nobel even tho I haven't ordered anything in quite some time. When I do need to order a certain recovery book in quantity, I go to Amazon and look for the best price from their book sellers. I'm am extremely cautious when dealing with the Internet (although it takes me forever to make a simple purchase in real life as well). Better safe than sorry. The only time I got scammed big time was right after I bought the motel many years ago and ordered credit card materials from *my* credit card company. Those bastards must watch for new business certificates to be filed... they pounce within a day or two.
