Monday, Monday

Mamas and the Papas, remember (title)?

It was a good weekend. Nice weather. A hike with my sister, golf on Sunday (a rarity), yard work. Those walnuts were prolific this year, and picking them up was back breaking. Had to gather them, plus pears and apples, before mowing. Then I raked. Still plenty of leaves (and walnuts etc.) on the trees, so I'm not done yet.

I saw that one of my unfavorite "comedians", Will Ferrell, won the prestigious Mark Twain award. I guess I'm just from the old school. I really despise (strong word--don't like?) today's movie/TV "comedians" --Chris Rock, Adam Sandler,
Ben Stiller, what'shisname from "Rules of Engagement" (mousy jerk), even Jon Stewart and a bunch of others, including late night show hosts.

Give me George Carlin, Jonathon Winters, Robin Williams, Johnny Carson, Steve Martin, Bob Hope--oh I could name many others.

Blame it on my age, I reckon. I just find modern comedian's sense of humor not my thing. I still laugh at certain things, however. I like "funny", but these guys aren't funny. They're irritating and obnoxious.

If purple is a mix of red and blue, orange a mix of yellow and red, why isn't there a word for a mix of blue and green?

green is already a mix isnt it???

You're welcome. I have lots more of that sauce.

I never saw Will Farrell before he started appearing in far too many movies, and agree with you, don't like him. I hated him when he was on The Office for awhile. Never liked Adam Sandler, either, what a no-talent. I guess each generation has their own list of who they think is funny. Personally, the one thing in a movie that always makes me laugh out loud is when someone plows into garbage cans or a lawn jockey out in front of someone's house. Go figure.

Like I keep saying, it's all personal taste--and I either have a lot or none! Pratfalls (Chevy Chase), stupid acts, etc. don't appeal to me.
I keep saying I'm going to write a post on why I don't watch/like movies, but I don't want to offend anybody.

A mix of blue and green? Besides aqua and teal, there is turquoise. I'm with you on contemporary comedians. My taste runs to Jeff Dunham and his "crew", like Achmed the Dead Terrorist. Now that you have high speed, try watching some of his videos on YouTube.
By the way, I read all of your posts that I missed but commented only on the last three or four.

Thanks for informing me that you read recent posts. I'm not informed about who's reading what, so I sometimes miss replies. Never heard of of the comedian you mentioned, but that's not surprising!

Don't forget Totie Fields she was a very funny woman.

The mamas and the pappas. Love their music and we still play it sometimes.
Mama Cass was on the verge of the solo bigtime before she chocked on the
ham sandwich.

I'm not sure (now) why I liked them. They blended well and had catchy tunes, I suppose. That was many years ago!
reply by solitaire on Oct 26, 2011 4:46 AM ()
Aqua, teal and peacock blue are all shades of blue and green.
comment by elderjane on Oct 25, 2011 5:35 AM ()
I thought aqua too. Or teal.
comment by crazylife on Oct 24, 2011 9:32 PM ()
I'm with you, Randy. Their foul mouths add NOTHING to their comedy. Bob Hope could put them to shame any day.
comment by redimpala on Oct 24, 2011 11:41 AM ()
I believe modern comedians THINK they're funny. Bob Newhart (for example) never considered himself a comedian. He just came off funny. Remember George Goeble? (sp?)

I liked Jerry Lewis in his younger days along with Martin.
The modern on they mouth are too foul for my virgin ears.LOL.
Jimmy Durante and Martha Ray were very funny.
But to each his own.I liked your sense of humor.

Now we're going back to the good old days--Uncle Miltie, Burns and Allen, Sid Caesar (plus Imogene Cocoa), etc. I always liked and admired Jerry Lewis. I've laughed and cringed at comedians over the years. Like you said, "to each his own".

While I don't agree with the list of comedians you like except Robin Williams and Jonathan Winters (I hate Bob Hope!!!) I do agree about current comedians--they are rude, crude and not funny but then I don't particularly like stand up. This might surprise you--I LOVE Jerry Lewis!!!
I'll take your extra walnuts--they go great on a carrot cake--waste not want not.

To each his own (re: comedians). I must have thousands of black walnuts. Hating to see them go to waste, they're piled up on a concrete slab drying out. Then? I still have a freezer full from past years. Can't eat them fast enough. I'll bring you some.

I like some current comedians -- are you forgetting Lewis Black? Chris Rock, when he isn't too profane, can be incredibly funny. Adam Sandler is a high school type, not my thing. I like Rules of Engagement because of the byplay with the main couple. I like the mousy guy's Indian assistant. jondude says "aqua" -- but I think that is more skyish blue. I think a more accurate word is Teal (ahem). Indigo, in the really dark shades, is a combination of blue and green. Ya heard it here.
comment by tealstar on Oct 24, 2011 7:20 AM ()
I'm sort of lumping stand-up comedians with sit-com "actors". We could list hundreds of them--Ray Romano to Dick Van Dyke. It's all a matter of personal taste. I'm usually "out of step" with societal preferences. And I can dig "teal".

Awe... I adore Will Farrell, I especially love the movie Elf. It makes me laugh til I cry even after seeing it many times. Adam Sandler is funny too, for me... I wonder what it is you don't like.
comment by kristilyn3 on Oct 24, 2011 7:15 AM ()
Evidently, you're not the only one that likes them. I simply can't stand their personalities. It's little wonder I never watch movies or sitcoms (Big Bang excluded). Call me either a fuddy duddy or a person with discriminating tastes!

Aqua.

Sounds good. Speaking of good, I opened and used your "Nom Nom" sauce in a turkey based meatloaf! Yum yum. Then I put in on ravioli and even a pastrami sandwich! I'm addicted! Thanks so much.
