It looks like a nice day in Hoosierland. It's cool (no frost, thankfully), but sunny. I have clothes in the washer--to be hung out to dry later.
My plan is to take a short jog this morning and go for a hike this afternoon with my sister. We're going to walk along the restored section of the Wabash Canal. It's really neat. Only 15 miles away.
No football games of interest to watch today. Besides, with limited satellite options (remember, I have the cheap $15 package), I don't get ESPN, etc. That's good--no temptations.
This brings me to the point of my subject title.
I saw where my high school team (Frankfort) lost 62-0 last night. They were winless this season. They've always been lousy. I don't understand why, but it's not for me to reason.
The high school where my children went (Rossville) doesn't even have a football team (not big enough--the only public school in the state that doesn't have one!).
My "teams" are usually rotten. Indiana U. seldom has a winning season (they'll be 1-7 after today). They stink, period. Ranked 117th out of 120 in defense nationally. They had recruited the #1 quarterback in the nation, but he's backing out of his commitment (now Notre Dame?). It only gets worse.
And while my Indy Colts have won the Super Bowl, they, too are winless this year.
Add one more loser to my list. That being the Chicago Cubs. Need I say more? Pathetic is my word for them. Just like in society, the rich get richer, the poor get poorer. My father warned me about this possibility 50 years ago (when I went to IU). They (and my other teams) were never good and will never get better (he said).
It's not a lot of fun rooting for losers. You get your hopes up, only to have your nose rubbed in the mud. Again and again. Time after time. Forever and ever. Yuck.
Yet, I remain optimistic!
Wait'll next year!
