What's New, You Ask?

Even though I drop in to mybloggers every once in a while, I haven't blogged. Red's update inspired me.

It's been a very busy summer. For me, it's golf 5 days a week, yard and garden work, firewood gathering, reading, etc. Still jogging. I'm "in training" for a 5k run next weekend (Aug 24). I could be the oldest person in the field (70). Doctor said I was good to go.

Family okay. Father still kicking at 95. One (of two) sister beat breast cancer.
My oldest daughter from Honduras was here this summer, with family. Always nice to see her.
Second oldest (38) is expecting her first child Oct. 1. Mixed race, but I'm happy for her (Sac. Calif).
Third oldest daughter (Emily) is EXTREMELY busy with the farm life, raising 2 kids (4 and 1), working part time (dental hygienist). Their "organic" vegetable farm has exploded to nearly 40 acres (my land). Check 'em out at Silverthorn-farm.com (Rossville IN). I've helped in one way or another all spring and summer. It's been hard, but fun.

I never hear from my 30 year old son from Santa Cruz CA., but I think he's doing fine.

I didn't do any "wilderness volunteer" trips this year, since I was saving up for "hiking the Greek islands" with Sierra Club Sept 23-Oct 6. Looking forward to that, of course. I just hope all my duties here at home can be put on hold.
By the way, no women or pets in my life. Still "solitaire"!
So long for now.

I have friends who have been to Greece and love it. I hope it works out for you. Opa! Glad the organic farm is coming along. That is an ambitious project. Please keep us posted on your news. It is always good to see a new post from you so we know you are still around.

Darn! I read this just before MyBloggers was moved to a new server. I thought I left a comment about how good it was to hear from you. Maybe I closed my browser again before hitting 'send'? Your family has a healthy survival rate.

Lots of good news and love the farm stuff! We moved to the windward coast of O'ahu and have started our own little farm. Got 6 chickens, 2 chinese quail, and a dog. We are growing: Avocados, Lychee, Date, Banana, Lilikoi, Papaya, Kaffir Lime, Lemongrass, Hawaiian Chili Peppers, Rosemary, Tomato, strawberry, Thai Ginger, Aloe, green onions & cilantro!

I'm thoroughly jealous about you going to Greece. But, I did go to Hawaii for a week in July. Kona. It was amazing. Stood in the crater of an active volcano. I was depressed to come home. :( I'm still running and have done a few 10ks and Color Me Rad 5k (with my son!), and a half marathon coming up Sept.15. My garden is doing amazing this year, I have TONS of kale and greens.

Hey Kiddo, great to hear from you. I probably did that same Kilauea hike you did when I was doing a Wilderness Volunteer trip several years ago. Amazing. Glad you're still running and gardening. I get much pleasure out of doing them. Try as I did, I couldn't find anyone to go with me to Greece. Their loss! Hope I don't get ill.

Sounds like mostly good news! Good luck on the run!

Thanks John. No more "runs" after this one. Nothing to prove.

Greek food is one of the reasons I'm going! I love Mediterranean food. I have other reasons for going besides food, however. Enjoy your Fall trip to Central America.

So busy! I love it. 40 acres of farming, kudos! I am just happy I am getting tomatoes this year. Oh and I have to google how to know when it's ok to pick a cucumber. I actually got one!

Glad to hear you're gardening. Cucumbers are the one thing I don't grow. Never liked them. I "pickle" zucchini instead. How's the family?

Really looking forward to Greece, but not the flights. Too cramped for too long. I get claustrophobic. Hope all is well with you.

Always good to hear from you, Randy. Hiking the Greek islands sounds like a stupendous adventure!! No "women or pets," eh? Are you lumping them into the same category?

The doctor thought I should have a pet. Theoretically, single people live longer if they have a pet. I've considered it, but.....
