Hoosier Happenings

Hello old friends.
What's happening in Randy's world, you ask?
For, Spring has finally arrived, sort of. Still below average.
But, I plan to golf for the first time this year today.
And I worked in the garden yesterday, cleaning and prepping it for first plantings--peas, radish, lettuce, spinach, kale. Frost hardy. Potatoes this weekend.

Enjoying my new Toyota Tacoma, although I haven't driven it more than 20 miles from home. The TV ad says "Let's go places". I'll have to consider where to go!

Sister Barb had her final (as of now) chemo treatment yest. She's hanging in there. Dad (age 95) crusty and active as ever.
Daughter Emily and family are moving into their new digs Saturday! Lock, stock, and barrel, as they say. They are so excited, as am I. I've been "sitting" their kids (ages 3 and 7 mo)almost every day--or so it seems. Again, check out their website: Silverthorn-farm.com (I think). Farm fresh veggies on the way!

Have a great weekend. Miss you.

Well if you DO get a pup please please please post a pic on here for us to see! And Ron and I were talking this morning, we are going to start composting. Exciting times!

Will do. I have 3 compost piles at different stages of decomposition. I gave up on rapid "heat" piles and do "cold" composting. Takes longer, but works. Patience!

So nice to hear from you. Hope your sis continues to improve. I have to go look at Max. Remember a dog needs to be walked twice a day and when you go on trips, will you take him or her along? As for gardening, I am thinking of getting fake flowers for the urns that are on the landing at water's edge, and the ones flanking our driveway. Everything we put there dies, dies, dies. I think it could be the salt spray.

Hi! It's actually my daughter who's encouraging me to get a dog. She WANTS to babysit it when I leave. Saw my sister yest. She was tired, but in positive spirits. And I agree that salt spray kills your plants. Today's fake ones are difficult to tell the difference.

OMG I just looked at Staff pics and they have THE CUTEST dog Max! I want him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, it's never too late to get into gardening. Growing and eating your own stuff is the best. Max, the dog, is the greatest! Because of him, I'm seriously thinking about getting a dog. May go to the pound this week. Hope you're feeling and doing well.

Oh how I wish I lived closer. I would join their CSA! I am going to try, once again, to grow some tomatoes and ---- even cucumbers. I haven't figured out where the planting will happen but I gave Ron the heads up that next year I would like a part of the yard for a fenced in garden area. I am excited! But then again.... it's me and my black thumb, so I really should just join a local CSA!

Too early to plant here also. Still traces of snow on the north sides. But it's nice to read about planting!

This late Spring start harks back to the 50's and 60's when it was the norm--before global warming. Patience.

Still too cold to plant here, but I have been eying the seed packages in the stores.
comment by boots586 on Apr 5, 2013 1:13 PM ()
I spent over $17 in seeds. Ready to go! Hope all is well up your way.

Do your stretching exercises first. I didn't and I am wondering how many of my ribs have separated.

Hey Jon. I'm in "garden shape" already. Ouch on your ribs.
