This blog is for Fredo and a few others that are curious about my two week Sierra Club trip, "Hiking the Greek Islands".
What can I say? Marvelous, stupendous, incredible, amazing! I had the time of my life, met the girl of my dreams (literally), consider it one of the top five highlights of my life.
Two days in Athens to take in all the sites and activities (including the lighting of the Olympic torch ceremonies). No words can describe the feelings of actually seeing in person all the places we read about or see pictures of (i.e. the Parthenon, etc.).
We took 9 long and rugged (5-9 miles) hikes spread over 3 islands (Tinos, Naxos, Amorgos) with various destinations--monastaries, villages, mountain tops. Some members of the group were totally out of shape or grossly overweight (one 350 lb lady hiked only the first day and barely survived). Some people are so stupid. This was no walk in the park.
The weather was great, the food delicious, the natives friendly (and English speaking). As always, a couple of group members were irritants to the rest, but nothing horrible.
Except for a long and delayed flight (and jet lag), the trip was nearly perfect. I'll relive it many times over (especially the "girl of my dreams" part!).
