House of Themes

After I wrote about my basement the other day, I thought I'd blog about some other rooms in my house that are "thematic" (basement has its own special theme!).

My computer room where I now sit, somehow evolved into a geography/Native American motif. The walls are covered with maps and posters of Indians, buffalo, and other silly things. Book shelves contain rocks and minerals, painted pottery and gourds, baskets, and much more. It's really a mish-mash of selected items. An original Indian chief charcoal painting and carved wooden bison (2) are in the living room. They should be in here.

Speaking of the living room, it's nothing "special". It's sort of the "family" room with photos of my family hanging on the wall. It's where I watch TV in my recliner. All the original woodwork is oak, so my furniture is mostly oak to match. I'll spare details on what else is in my living room.

Adjoining through pocket doors (that slide into the walls) is my "music/library room". In here, you'll find my piano (yes, I play it), my record (etc.) collection and stereo player, music posters, and an old maple 3x5' desk. Shelves of books are found in here, too.

My last "theme" room is the dining room. It's the "rural" room with farm antiques mostly decorating (if you will) the walls, built-in china cabinet, and wooden floor. It contains a lot of plants since it's south facing. I don't spend much time in this room.

I wouldn't say my kitchen has any particular characteristics. It's been remodeled several times--twice since I've live here (32 yrs). I love looking out a big arched window sitting at the kitchen table.

The bedrooms (5) are all different. I won't go into detail. Same with the bathrooms (2.5).
Yes, it's a pretty big house for one person, but it was great for four children growing up in it. And after two divorces, where the ex'es took half of everything, I'm happy with the way it looks. It's who I am.

I read this before. Where is my comment? Your house sounds like a home- a place where you live, and a place that you love.

Well, how very interesting. It gives a person an insight into another person's life to know about their homes... interesting indeed!

Sounds large and expansive. Love pocket doors.

Your house sounds wonderful. Five bedrooms means you can have more than just one couple as guests and/or room for someone's children as well. We'd have to jiggle things around. One spare bedroom, and the third is our computer/library room. So enjoy.

Sounds like a cozy place. It's interesting how each room reflects a different side of who you are. Your computer room sounds especially nice. Although I've always had an affinity for collecting rocks and similar things. (Which I display in our spare bedroom.)

Our houses reflect us in a good way. After a number of moves, I have given most of my books away but still have too many. Some I can't part with.
