A Couple of Things.

I'm going to the Shenandoah Valley, VA., leaving Friday, to visit my sister for the weekend. So I'll post now, and will report back next week. Happy that gas prices are down.

One last political observation/comment: Indiana doesn't get much national press regarding the election. 11 electoral votes aren't much, although they could swing the election. It's still a toss-up here. Both VP candidates will be the state this week. Amazingly, McCain hasn't made an appearance since July 1st!!! And only 2 all together. Want to guess how many times Obama has visited? 47. Yep, 47! Now what does that tell you? One cares; the other either doesn't or assumes he's got us in the bag. I think the press ought to pick up on this. By the way, since I put up a home-made Obama/Biden sign in my yard, not one car has honked in affirmation. At least the sign hasn't been stolen.

On another subject: I just finished "Hi-Ho Steverino", written by the one and only Steve Allen. It was about his days in television. What an inovator. While I lived in S. California, I once went to one of his shows. I know the exact date (in 1972), because the theatre was virtually empty. Why? That was the day of a great earthquake that killed over 60 people. The show "must go on", and did, but few people ventured out.
I remember guest Allen Sherman ("Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah"), panicked when we had an aftershock while on air.
I thought the whole earthquake thing was exciting!

Anyway, Steve Allen brought us one of the great intellectual shows of all time--Meeting of the Minds. Interesting how that came about. I certainly enjoyed it. 24 episodes were aired. Allen was a comedian, jazz pianist, author, TV personality, and above all, a smart man with great ideas. I miss him.

I'll be back next week. Take care.

I loved Steve Allen, Allen Sherman (I think I had four of his comedy albums), and I LOVE the breath-taking Shenandoah Valley!.
Look forward to hearing about your trip!

Tom Poston, not a dancer, but looking to be confident on stage, took my same ballet class for a while.

In 1996 in November and December I visited the Shenandoah Valley twice because my company had a manufacturing plant there. It was such a beautiful area and for a couple of years after that it pulled on my heart around this time of year and I felt I needed to go back. I'll be thinking of you being there and wishing it was me.

I remember Steve Allen very well and miss him a lot. His TV show in the 50s was one of the few truly intelligent shows on air. His cast was great. In a few minutes I will remember all their names -- Howie Morris, Carl Reiner, etc. I almost saw him when I visited NY but got to the studio after the doors were closed. I was despondent.
