Post Election Thoughts.

First of all, I've returned from an extended weekend at my sister's in Virginia. It's a long 10.5 hour haul to and from her house. But it was worth it. She does theater productions in the Shenandoah Valley and invited me to see their "best show ever". I have to admit, I was blown away by the music, especially the tenor and bass, two members of the "Singing Sargents" (Army?).

The election of President elect Barack Obama (sounds good, eh?) sent me into ecstasy late Tues. night. When Indiana went "blue", I couldn't believe it. My county, however is still blood red, McCain gathering 72% of the vote! My Republican friends all predict doom and gloom, as if the past 8 years have been wonderful. How can people be so blind and stubborn? I'm trying not to gloat in their presence.

I do get a little irritated at the "talking heads" saying "only in America" can these election results happen. Bull hockey. It happens all over the world--Europe and Latin America, for example. Oh, and unlike Ms. Palin, I know Europe consists of many separate countries. Can you believe her ignorance? Let's all hope she gets shoved under the carpet. I can see why she was elected governor if the Alaskan voters didn't reject Ted Stevens. Are they nuts up there?

One last thing: Would somebody please tell me why Obama is considered "black" when he's bi-racial? Whatever happened to the term "mulatto"? Why was (is) such a big deal made out of his being an "African-American"? He's half Caucasian, but designated Negro (or black, if you prefer). In any case, he's going to be our next president, and I couldn't be happier!

And another thing: I was disgusted by the repeated references to the "Black voters" as if they alone elected Obama. It was simply a matter of statistics. I looked this up: Blacks make up about 13 % of the US population. About 13% of voters in the election were, guess what, Black. Therefore, they didn't elect him by themselves. Okay, my rant is over.

This is a bit late but I want to get my two cents in too. I think calling Obama Black stems from the old prejudice that anyone with even a drop of Negro blood was considered Negro. I expect it was a way of saying if you weren't pure lily white, you were black. Anyway, I like you, got very irritated about him being called Black over and over and over again.

Glad you had fun. The election was wonderful. If President Elect Obama had been green I would still have voted for him.

I voted for whom "I" thought was the best man for the job. Color or race had absolutely nothing to do with it and I'm so proud of my fellow Americans whom also could vote beyond race/color. (I feared they/others couldn't/haven't risen above racism and though I know it's still prevalent... it seems as if more people have overcome it than I originally imagined)

You reminded me of terms long forgotten, like mulatto and "high yellow". I could care less what color he is. Just think he is the best man for the job right now.

The US election was covered on all the Canadian news channels, both local and national. Constantly. With specials on election night. I'm sure it had more coverage than our own election where Stephen Harper was reelected as Prime Minister. Obama looks black, therefore he is.

Oh, I didn't know that about Obama. No wonder he looks "strange" to me. I'm just glad that it's over so that I don't have to watch it on the news constantly. Did anyone in the US even notice there was an election in Canada a few weeks ago??

On today's MNBC rundown of Republican staffers bashing Palin, there was a thread of does she deserve it. I wanted to shout RICHLY, you dumb clucks. Where have they been? Palin on camera said the panel that found her guilty of ethics violation was a Democrat plot. 6 Republicans, 4 Democrats -- so that didn't wash. So two days later she said, on camera, she was "glad the report vindicated her". Huh? Three weeks later, an "independent" panel reinvestigated troopergate and cleared her. She's not only a liar, she's a schizoid. If she was vindicated, why did she need an independent panel. She relied on the abysmal ignorance of her base to have either short-term memory or to not understand what she was talking about. Ed said her audiences looked like Klan rallies. If McCain had won, she probably would have tripped him as he ascended to the podium to take the oath of office.
