I Want to S C R E a E a E a E a M!

Remember the little bathroom downstairs that the flooring guy forgot to order linoleum for? Well, the lino was ordered and arrived just before Christmas but due to the holidays we set up January 4th (today) for the flooring workers to work their magic.

Before photos:

Please don't comment on the cotton candy pink walls. It wasn't my idea. I had nothing to do with it.

Lumpy old linoleum caused by lime deposits coming up through the concrete due to exsessive flooding by our Darling Son in his wild youth. Also tears and rips.

Care to guess how Darling Son kept flooding the bathroom?

Note the greyish hue of the cream coloured linoleum.

They arrived at 9 AM and were disappointed to discover the toilet had not been removed. Their boss was to set things up with the plumber and just as last Fall when the upstairs bathroom was done, he forgot again. So, they start ripping up the old linoleum and low and behold they discover the concrete floor is very, very damp around the toilet and the front of the shower stall. They finished removing the old lino and scraped off the lime deposits on the concrete but there was nothing more they could do today and they left after giving me the name of the plumber and stating it would take three days for the concrete to dry. Over the course of the morning I phoned the plumber five times. The first four I got a busy signal and began to suspect the plumber's teenager's cell phone was out of minutes but on the fifth call, around noon, I finally made contact. I explained the situation and he said he'd be out this afternoon for a look-see. When he arrived, I showed him where the wet spots had been. He couldn't see anything visibly wrong or wet so he said it could be this or it could be that. He really wasn't sure. He told me to have DH take his usual nightly shower, showed me where to check for wetness and left. None of the little taps for turning off the water to the toilet or to the bathroom sink (also removed)will completely shut off the water so we have a couple of buckets catching the drips and then there is the sink's drain which was left open and every time we flush the upstairs toilet or run water in the bathroom or kitchen sinks a steady stream of water starts to run out of the open drain. I'm afraid to use the dishwasher or washing machine in case I flood the downstairs bathroom.

The plumber is out of town tomorrow but he wanted me to call and leave a message as to where the shower is leaking. Unfortunately DH decided to clean the grungy shower stall before he took his shower (The flooring workers had left the toilet inside the shower stall.) and slopped water all over the concrete so we couldn't tell where there might be a leak. Oh well, just another chapter in The Tale of The Never Ending Reno.
