My Name is Margaret

Well, my given names are Margaret Mary. I was named Margaret after my paternal grandmother, Marguerite but her friends called her Greta and my mother didn't want me to get stuck with that nickname so she modernized it to Margaret. My mother and two sisters are the only people who still call me Margaret. I was named Mary after my mother and maternal grandmother before her.
I like Mary but I don't care for Margaret. I would have preferred Marguerite and I would NEVER have allowed anyone to call me Greta. I've always thought Margaret was too long, too formal, too prim and proper. Only losers were named Margaret. The wicked witch in the Wizard of Oz; her real name was Margaret and then there was Dennis The Menace's annoying little friend, Margaret. When I was 13 years old we moved from Sarnia, Ontario to New Westminster, BC. I seized this opportunity to tell everyone I met that my name was Marg. It was then I was faced with a whole new problem. You see, I'm rather soft spoken and my new friends must have been a little hard of hearing as they started calling me Marge, as in Homer Simpson's wife. Marge is short for Margery or Marjorie not Margaret. I was deeply offended when, after correcting them time after time, they continued to call me Marge. I have mellowed over the years and now find I'm only mildly annoyed when I hear Marge and usually don't even bother to offer a correction.
My name in the virtual knitting community is Nittineedles. It began, years ago, when I started using Needles as my user name. I thought it was appropriate as I both knit and sew. Then I started getting medical questions from people who thought I was a nurse so I tried to change it to Knittingneedles but that name was already taken. I tried a varied assortment of similar names but alas, others had beaten me to each and every one. The last name I tried was Nittineedles. It was available so I grabbed it and have been using it ever since.
So, although my name is Margaret you may call me Marg, Marge, Nitti or Nittin and I'll know you are talking to me.
