Kitchen Reno

We are doing a partial renovation in the kitchen today. We are having our counter tops painted. It should look like we got new counters installed when they're finished. The salesman, owner? is a bit of a jerk. He wanted us to caulk the seam where the back splash meets the wall. He told us to use paintable silicone. My wonderful husband, who I did not marry for his handyman skills, bought the wrong kind and when the salesman found out he said, "I should have known." Ya, he should have known we didn't have a clue what we were doing when we were asking all those dumb questions. Maybe we should have specified that we are not painters. When I, who also knows nothing about caulk, tried to exchange it at the store they told me there is no such thing as paintable silicone and I need to buy latex caulk. I bought the latex caulk and butchered the job. Now I'm thinking, if the painters wanted the counter caulked, they should have done it themselves. What have I learned? You need really strong hands and a bead can be something other than a small, round object with a hole through the middle.
Today the workmen showed up. I'm cringing in the basement listening to crashing and banging and sawing. I thought they were painters not demolition workers. We are getting a new sink and tap set, too. I doubt if either of these guys is a certified plumber.
I wish I'd thought to take a before picture. I'll try to get a during when they go off for lunch.
