Last night I was woke up at 2 in the morning by GF jumping out of bed and running into the spare room where the kitties have been. She started yelling about the kittens being missing so I jump up and go in there and sure enough, both kitties are gone. We had put a gate at the door to keep the dogs out but the kittens were starting to walk and we had found them outside the gate the night before and decided we needed to close the door also. Well we went to bed and forgot to shut the door. :(
I went into our room and at the end of the bed was kitty 1. The calico we were calling fancy for her cute fancy face. Dead.
Kitty 2 was under the bed also dead.
Our little Yorkie had broke their little necks. He is a very good mouser and we normally are proud of his hunting skills but this time.... it just sucks. He was only doing what felt natural to him.
GF started crying hysterically and wouldn't touch them so I scooped them up and took them downstairs to try and find something to bury them in. All I could find was a beer box which was big and I didn't want to dig a hole that size at 2 in the morning so I put them in a grocery sack and rushed outside to start the digging before GF saw what I was burying them in.
I picked the spot right next to where we buried the black kitty Waylon and dug a hole as best I could in the dark. The dirt smelled so strong. Normally I would have loved the smell of fresh soil being turned but I found it a sad smell for the first time.
We went back to bed but it was hard to get to sleep. We were both so sad and Mommy kitty was crying all night trying to find her babies.
I finally fell asleep and got up at 5 for work and mama kitty was sitting by the gate still crying.
I'm taking her to get her fixed right away. My heart can't take any more deaths.
