My Biggest Fear ...

There is no name for the phobia I have.
The fear of toothpicks.
I actually googled it just to see. The fear of teeth was the only thing that came up and I was thinking “who would be afraid of teeth?” but then I realized most people would wonder the same about being afraid of toothpicks.
It started when I was 17 and was dating the guy I ended up marrying. He was taking a shower and I was watching TV. I got up to go to the kitchen to get something and unbeknownst to me there was a toothpick sticking out of the carpet. I walked right into it and it lodged into the bottom of my foot. I yelled the usual “FUCK SHIT DAMN MOTHER FUCKER JESUS WHORE!!” and my boyfriend ran out naked and dripping to find me on the floor with blood everywhere. We spent a good hour trying to get it out but it had broken off and there was nothing left to grab to when trying to extract it. So off to the hospital we went where they had to numb my foot, then cut it open the size of the toothpick and pull it out making sure not to leave splinters.
I was forced to go without a shoe for 4 weeks while it healed.
Since that day, I will not allow toothpicks in my home and cringe when I see them. It’s all about dental floss for me.

PS - I thought of this post yesterday when I was at work and found a toothpick IN MY CUBICLE!!! And I had to PICK IT UP! Like touch it and everything….. *shudder*

It's my pleasure to meet you (I don't think we've met before). Read your previous post (and this one) to get to know you. I like your style. Mind if I add you to my friends list?

When you fall off a horse you have to get right back on it and that's just how I managed to avoid aichmophobia after sitting on a knitting needle I had carelessly tossed on a chair.

OUCH!!

It's impossible to describe that pain, isn't it? I mean, I've also had three children and I would gladly go through childbirth again. At least I could walk after I had my kids.

No, I'm not scared of them. I actually still have some for art making (when a fine brush isn't fine enough) and for, well, tooth picking. But I'm really, really, REALLY anal about putting them directly into the garbage. I freak out if someone leaves one lying around. It was one of the kids who was responsible for leaving on the floor that day and now I'm getting the willies just remembering it. *shudder*

I have a phobia for needles and those damned pins that come stuck in new-bought shirts. I make them remove the pins at the store. No needles allowed. I have stepped on several. Never again. I don't blame you.

Yes, needles are a big fear of mine too!

Okay, so once I read what your greatest fear was (is), I was thinking, "I should share my story about getting a toothpick stuck in my foot"....No, seriously. That *exact* same thing happened to me, minus the trip to the hospital. That's right. There's a little nub of wood still caught in my foot, "healed in" as they say. The moral? Toothpicks ARE evil.

OMG, I can't believe I am the only one to have done that. So Janet are you afraid of them too?

omg! What are the chances you two! lol

Well, it souns like you have a pretty good reason to not like toothpicks! They are evil!
We all have fears that some people would say are irrational, but when you find out the reasons for them, it tends to make sense.
