Being a Mom

I neglected to tell you about my Mother's Day. It was wonderful. My daughter got me a bouguet of flowers, and a tank top I had seen at her store. But the best was the card she got me and what she wrote inside. We have had our difficulties in the past but I have to say, we have a very strong relationship now. My hubby said last night that I may not have given birth to her, but she is definitely my daughter. We all went out to dinner Sunday night at my favorite seafood place. After we had to run to the store. My daughter had kota pick out a card and a gift for me. Since he stole my stuffed wolf I bought at the zoo he picked out this pink and white fluffy gorilla for me. LOL And also a tiara that has a butterfly on it that has flashing lights.
The sun is out today but our road is still flooded at the bridge. And the other road with a bridge looks like it flooded last night at some point. We had one tree limb down, but that was it as far as damage.
This afternoon I meet with Kota's counselor one on one. I have been keeping notes on different behaviors I have seen. For instance, this morning I had pants out for kota to wear. He had a total melt down about it. Rather than fight him, I let him wear shorts. I guess you have to pick your battles, right? When he has these melt downs, I don't yell back at him. I remain calm and try talking him down. Sometimes even that doesn't work though. He really did not want to go to school today. He did tell me another kid has been picking on him. Telling him he is so fat he can't stand up when he is sitting. GRRRRR! I will tell the counselor about that too.
So right now I am enjoying my coffee and listening to the news.

Ummmm--no mention of what hubby got you????
I have no doubt that Kota will become a young man to be proud of--he has his mom (and dad)behind him all the way!

Just fyi, younger son was chunky and had glasses and missing his two front teeth. All through elementary school, he absolutely hated it. He looks back at those times with great sadness. Football, Tae Kwan Do and doing better in school he became much more sure of himself. I put him on a diet, just reduced the sugar and the white bread and potatoes and he lost like 20 lbs. Got rid of his glasses at the age of 13 and his teeth had come in. Now's he's a good looking Italian kid who still has his challenges, but knows that no matter what, he can overcome! Love ya!

Glad you had a great Mother's Day. I hope all goes well with the meeting. Kota can be tested to see if he is bipolar or not. You might ask the counselor about that.

my son has these same melt downs Mary and is also being picked on for being fat. It is so difficult to watch, especially since I've experienced it myself

What a wonderful mother's day. Mine was terrific too, 'cept for having the slick one have to be out of town
Regarding kota and your response to Janet....those thoughts and feelings are true for every parent.....wanting to help them, not knowing why they are acting the way they are, not knowing or understanding what it is they fear, etc.......all we can do is love them, forgive them and be there for them. Being a parent certainly made me realize the true mean of unconditional love!
