Bad Stitch!

My dog's name is stitch. He has outgrown his kennel. He will still go in it to sleep but we don't close the door to keep him in it anymore. Yesterday I had to babysit. I came home to my crochet hooks chewed up. they have rubber handles and he chewed the rubber off of some. Tomorrow I will see about getting a bigger kennel.

Its still been pretty cold here so I don't get to exercise him much. For instance the wind chill today is 19. Not conducive to me taking him to run. Even the heater is having a hard time keeping up with the cold. Its running off and on all day today!

Two weeks ago my inlaws had a birthday party for my sister in law. I didn't make it. My sleep has been awful again. I hadn't gotten to sleep the night before until 5 in the morning. So I slept through the party. The next day I got a call from her husband, reaming me out for not coming. Told me to get my shit together. He said i was supposed to check with my doc about the sleep. I had, and told him so. Then he mentioned counseling and gave me his therapists number and expected me to call him to let him know I set up an appointment. So that threw me into a depression. The funny thing is, my sister in law is bipolar and takes meds for it. So he should understand about mental illness. Of course I did not call him out on this. I just listened and in my mind i was telling myself I am no good.

This sister in law fosters kittens and cats for an organization. She gave a kitten to my daughter. The kitten was sick from the beginning. It had not had its shots or been fixed. Now my daughter has the kitten locked in the laundry room because it has been peeing on stuff. We think it has a urinary tract infection, among other things. My daughter has not taken it to the vet. I worry they will put this kitten outside like they did with their last cat. I am very tempted to take the kitten and bring it back to my sister in law.
When I adopted Stitch from a rescue, he had his initial shots and had been fixed. I set him up with a vet to get his boosters. You don't get an animal if you aren't willing to take care of it. I am going to talk to my daughter about this and she will probably get mad at me. We waited to get a dog until we were financially able to take care of it. There was an adoption fee to cover his initial shots and other things. I'm just a little mad at my daughter about this whole cat thing! They also have a dog. The dog gets very aggressive when they have tried to cut his nails. So now his nails have grown into his foot pads in places. Its irresponsible to do this to an animal. Its not that they can't afford treatment. I guess they just don't justify the cost.

I know how it is to have trouble sleeping, am so sorry that guy talked to you like that. Even more, I'm sorry it made you feel badly. He needs to get some other interests besides minding your business.

We are having a family get together this sunday. Found out he got fired from his job because of anger issues. I might have to tell him to get his shut together.

It's hard not to be concerned about all these animals. I'm glad your Stitch is happy and with you. I guess he needs daily toys he can destroy, like my sister's dog. That would be hard to keep up with, or at least messy! But kind of funny. Sorry the SIL's husband thinks he should control you, probably does that to her too. I despise that when it's done to me and react badly.

I keep buying him chew toys but stitch hides them!I guess I will have to buy several and give him one when he loses one. I really dislike controlling people. They are the worse.

Mary, you are loved. You are a worthwhile person and do not let any one talk to you this way. Remove yourself from their presence. You are totally right about the treatment of animals. They are expensive. You have to be willing to spend the money if you have one. It is a question of responsibility. Do not indulge in negative self talk. Hang up on those kind of phone calls.

Thanks jeri, from now on I will not take calls from him. We waited a long time to get a dog until we were financially able.

well boo!
There are indoor ways to release energy. Look into nosework - all you need are treats and empty contains to play with him. It doesn’t seem like much but it will wear him out! I also had a pole toy with a stuffed animal at the end that I would play with with Kraymer when I was in my condo. Just a couple ideas! As for your sis in law and bro in law, well,

Stitch definitely needs indoor play. He is an active dog. I will try your suggestions, it sounds fun!
