Heat Wave, Deadliest Catch, New Job?

This heat wave is ridiculous. I cannot tell you the last comfortable day we had here. We made a wise investment at the beginning of summer. A 16ft by 3.5ft pool! It is quite the miracle cure for these hot days! Dakota is looking quite the native american with his dark tan and mohawk. LOL That boy continues to bring our life joy!

My husband got me hooked on the discovery channel show Deadliest Catch when it first came on. I never thought I would like the show but the personalities on the show really make it. This season they lost one of their Captains. Captain Phil passed away after have a massive stroke. Last night's show was about his passing. I cried my eyes out. These are real people doing a very hard job under conditions you cannot imagine. I look forward to seeing his sons carry on the tradition.

As I have been getting more and more fed up with my job, I decided to pull in some favors. I called one of my old bosses when I worked at a local college. She was so happy to hear from me and is really trying to get me back in there. She will be retiring next summer and wants to train me as her replacement. Walmart was a good job for me as far as returning to the work force after being a stay at home mom. But that place is seriously a joke. The way the employees are treated is similar to kindergarten tactics. Although I did just have my annual review and it was a good one, I do not wish to make walmart a career. I can't deal with the politics and ass kissing. While our store manager gets her big bonus and goes on vacations to Mexico and the Bahama's, us peons are scraping by to support our families and put food on the table. The college I am trying to go back to is state run so I get all the good days off! I will be back in accounting, hoping my brain hasn't been fried by working at walmart. Oh and also 8 to 5, weekends off. My schedule right now is horrible, hardly ever get to spend time with family. I never get two days in a row off.

Keep me in your thoughts that this job comes through soon!

Hiya Mary

Hiya Mary I hope you have had some good fortune on the work front. The hours would undoubtedly be better for you and the family - kids grow up so quickly.
Over 'here', we have only had about a month (in total) of any summer and spring sun, not at all pleasant.
Chris is a big fan of Deadliest Catch, he was watching it about an hour ago actually. It is only the 2nd or 3rd episode of a new series - it is the one that ended with Captain Phill has just found out that his son has been stealing his tablets and just told his his father that he is an addict. I can well expect the passing of him to be a real tear jerker. I remember when he had to go into hospital when he had a clot passing through his heart. I didn't expect to see him back in the boat.
I'm still 'ok' (still here lol) theres a heck of a lot to be said for thinking positively - I am sure, that has helped me.
Keep well and happy Mary - our love to Dakota too

I am sooo glad not to have to deal with working anymore... but what am I saying? I put in more hours for the Auxiliary than I ever did as a paid employee.
comment by dragonflyby on July 22, 2010 6:19 AM ()
but it is probably more enjoyable than working!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a new job for you. There's a heat wave here too. Have a splash in your pool for me.

It sounds like your work life is evolving in a good direction. You needed the Walmart to get your confidence up about returning to work, now you know in your heart that you can do anything.
comment by troutbend on July 21, 2010 1:38 PM ()
thanks! yes, walmart was good for a start but not permanently. There is just too much drama every day.

FINALLY! I am so excited to hear that you are done with Wal-Mart!!! In other news, I am glad you are spending these hoooot days poolside. There really is no better way!

Sweltering. That's all I've been doing is sweltering, too! This summer heat spell has gone on and on and on.... Whew!
Best wishes finding a job that is just what you want and need!

This heat just sucks the life out of you! People are so grumpy and on edge. I wish we would get some relief soon! stay cool and hydrated!

Good luck with the new job if it happens.
comment by fredo on July 21, 2010 9:38 AM ()
thanks fredo! our walmart is just such a disaster! management has no idea how to treat people. there is no positive reinforcement.
reply by elkhound on July 22, 2010 7:07 AM ()
I know what you mean about the frustration of the heat. It totally wears me down.
I hope things work out for you with the new position. It is never good to work in a job that you makes you unhappy.

comment by lunarhunk on July 21, 2010 8:55 AM ()
thanks AJ, between being uphappy at work and dealing with this constant heat, I am not the most happy person in the world.

ll jobs are political ad involve arse kissing--even including waiter;s job---just a fact of life--so glad I am out of that!
comment by greatmartin on July 21, 2010 8:03 AM ()
I am not one who wants to climb the corporate ladder. I just want a job where I can take care of my family and still have time for them.
