Hopelessness

I don't have a lot of time but did want to urge you to
see a movie that I saw a portion of last night. It was
based on a Tennesee Williams play called Baby Doll. It all
happened in a decaying southern mansion and was typical of
his plays. I am going to try to get it from netflix. I watched it on TCM and even though I only got the last
hour I was enthralled.

I usually find these things depressing but this was so
well done that I had to admire the craftsmanship of the actors as well as the play itself.

Be happy my peeps.

Eli Wallach played the Italian who wooed Baby Doll and tried to destroy her husband (Karl Malden.)
Wallach is one of my very favorite and talented actors.

Who was the other male star? Karl Mauldin was great as the husband who
had to wait to consumate his marriage. Was Carol Baker also in Lolita?

Yes, black and white and dreary but Karl Maldin and Carrol Baker do a
wonderful acting job.

I am avoiding serious themes. I have a complex lately. It's age-related. Jeri, you don't seem to have that. Good for you. Meanwhile, I am doing feel-good stuff as long as it's not mindless and infantile. When I was young, I watched everything and was immune to the nightmares (except of course for Bela Lugosi and Boris Karloff movies).

Losing Dallas was a wake up call. He was Ted's best friend and it really plunged him in a deep depression. It made us aware that we are of the age
that anything can happen.

I think I saw this movie years ago. It has been so long that I don't remember a lot about it. I did recently watch Sean Penn in his roll as a retarded father...an absolutely wonderful movie. I think the name of it is I Am Sam and I also recently watched Denzel Washington's movie where out of desperation he takes over the emergency room of a hospital to try to get his dying son on a donor list. I can't remember its name, but it is also a great movie. If you haven't seen them, I highly recommend both.

Thanks, I will look for them. I will have to ask Martin or Fredo who the
other star was. It might have been Eli Wallach (?).

decaying mansion.

I know what you mean about that movie, it's one of the good classic ones that is still worth watching again and again.
