You know I have written about our good friends Dallas and
Ruth. They were single and looking but both very much
different from your average person. They had a few personality quirks that we enjoyed but that would not endear
them to just everyone. They subscribed to a dating service.
Dallas had some bad dates and refused to buy dinner any more
so he just wanted to meet for coffee. One woman sat him on
her porch with her dog while she got ready. He left. He
was a cat person. Ruth had some bad experiences too.
Ruth reluctantly got ready to meet him and remarked to her
sister that she wondered what rock he had crawled out from
under. They had coffee and it was ok and then he asked her
if she liked guns. She replied that she had a Browning
Automatic. Then he asked her if she liked foreign travel and
she said that she had only been to the Bahamas but she liked
that and knew she would probably like going other places.
Then, he asked her if she liked cats and the deal was sealed.
Ruth had a gun and regularly practiced shooting because her
second husband was an ex policeman and a paranoid schizophrenic. She is the least aggressive person I know.
A lapsed Quaker but still gentle as a dove.
To make a long story short, they lived together a few years
and then were married. They never quarreled despite his
having trouble with his daughter and son. It was a real
marriage for love. Dallas passed away over a year ago. He
was opinionated and bombastic but you had to love him. He
was Ted's best friend and he still misses him. Ruth is
ill, her breast cancer has re-occurred and spread but she
gets to Senior Citizens three times a week and cares for
their aging cats. Her sister drives her to the Doctor and
her son takes her to the grocery store. She had to give
up her car and driving because her eyes are failing. Ted
is too ill to go and see her but I would love to visit with
her again. We stay in contact.
