A Trying Week

After several days of relapse, I improved suddenly and had almost normal energy today. Three days ago, I biked and stopped off to see my sister, Tula. She had just fallen and her husband and I were trying to help her. She kept moving to ease the pain and that was a mistake because she had broken her femur.

She had surgery this morning and a titanium wire was inserted. She is now in intensive care because of a heart condition and is on morphine because after years of being on medication for post shingles pain, she is immune to most pain killers. She will go into rehab for several weeks. I haven’t seen her yet but Don is there all the time.
I am really worried about her. She is always in pain and now this.

Ed is still doing a lot of running around handling the estate of his late client … But he will make time to take me to the hospital. He waits in the car in the parking lot because he doesn’t want to see Don. Alienation takes its toll. Am I allowed to say this situation is draining?

Xx, Teal

Hope you are able to enjoy your surge of well-being, in between concern for your sister. And hope for her improvement.

So far, I am maintaining the surge. (And now I see how much hasn't been done around here while I was down.) Thanks for your good wishes.

It is strange but I have a reservoir of energy that I seem to be able to
tap when I need it most like right now. I am glad you are better and hope
that she gets well as quickly as possible.

I know what you mean ... when I was being superwoman back in the 90s while Jay was failing, I never got sick. So far I've kept on feeling better. I'm sure there will be a dip here and there but I think I'm on a good track now.

I am glad to hear that you are doing better. I hope it continues.

I hope she comes out of it okay. How old is your sister?
comment by redimpala on Jan 19, 2012 1:32 PM ()
She's 1 1/2 years older than me -- she'll be 82 in February. Her problems stem from compulsive habits -- when she exercised, she went to extremes, coupled with eating gerbil food and nothing else, lowered her immune system and got shingles.

Good to hear that you were feeling better, but I'm sorry about your sister. Sending best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Things will and do get better--it is the ups and downs of life.
