Chores and an Update on Sis

Ed asked me to clear out a file drawer so that he would have a repository for files that will grow out of his new duties as a guardian. I kept putting this off and he didn’t understand why until I started and he saw how involved this was.

In order to make room in other drawers, I weeded out old material, and reorganized and it took all day. Then I tackled one of my own two drawers just because I was on a roll.

And I came across a short piece of what Jay would have called “idle persiflage” that he wrote one day when contemplating life. The dictionary defines persiflage as “light and slightly contemptuous mockery or banter” and that is definitely what he had in mind when he wrote the following:

This is God speaking. Recent events have exhausted me, and I am thinking of retiring. I want to place a contract for my memoirs. But I won’t settle for less than the combined contracts of Winston Churchill, Dwight Eisenhower, Lyndon Johnson, and Charles Manson. One of my archangels will call you again on Monday … if I decide that there shall be a Monday.
Selah, you-all.

Yes, Jay was an atheist.

As I worked through my drawers, I found a file on exercise (out – I know everything), ballet schedules for New York studios and a few for down here – I’ll never take class again and I am truly sorry about that. The last time I had a class, around 2006 during a New York trip, I remember thinking as I sailed through the air that “this is living”. That was when I could still jump. Well I still practice some jumps but I hold on to the counter now.

Literature that came with my meditation tape was tossed. Most of it was hype for buying more stuff and none of it cheap. Out also, literature for the Abtronic that I haven’t been using lately. It is like a rolling pin – place your hands on the handles, kneel down and roll forward and back. I made it harder by standing instead of kneeling. Maybe I’ll go back to it.

I found the letter L. Ron Hubbard wrote to Jay in 1947 (they were friends) when he was still living in Stroudsberg, PA and before he moved out to California to enter what Jay referred to as “his flowing robe phase”. A while back, the Scientology outfit found me and called and wanted to have it and I sent them a copy but would not part with the original.

There is another drawer of just my stuff but I don’t have the stamina to continue today.

And, at one point, I interrupted myself to clean Ed's bathroom. It was about to separate itself from the house and walk to the dump on its own.

News of my sis is that she is out of the ICU where they put her because of her heart condition. Her femur was wired with titanium and she got some physical therapy. Don said she might be released tomorrow and continue with the therapy at home. I saw her about three times at the hospital. She didn’t want to eat or drink much and that was a problem. Finally they got her to cooperate. I am, of course, very relieved that she is doing well. So often, at her age, a break like that means a wheelchair for the rest of one’s life. But Don and the therapist at the hospital got her on her feet.

That was my day and I didn’t walk or bike and I had pizza for dinner. So there.

xx, Teal

I hear ya on the drawer weeding issue. I know it's not endless, but it does seem like it. I focus on celebrating small victories.

A candle of hope and healing is burning brightly for your Sis.

That's good news about your sister, thanks for the update. Every time I reach for the back of an old envelope to use for scratch paper, I think of her.

Every January I go through accumulated papers--so much gets tossed and yet by the following January there is another load--do I really need to save an article about "Aging"????
Glad your sister is recuperating.
