Two Thousand Twelve

I bought a couple of furnace filters yesterday with my first 2012 dated check. I like even numbers. Filters cost me $74.72 (even number)--expensive, but cheaper for me to self-install than some service technician. I'm one of those "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" types. Plus, I'm fair to middlin' in doing it myself. (I did quit changing truck oil a few years ago.)

My nephew and family from the state of Washington (Blaine, up near Vancouver, Marg), did make it. We all got together last night at his mother's, my sister (Queen B), for supper. He regaled us with his airport stories. What a zoo. He said I haven't changed (in looks) since we last saw each other, 25 years ago! How nice. (He's 41 yrs old) My daughter and fam was also there, so cousins were reunited. Drew is 6'7", my daughter Emily, 5'3". He and his siblings are very tall. Got that from his Dad's side, not ours!

So, it's January. I have no particular feelings about this month, other than it can't get over soon enough. I don't get depressed or anything, but the month does seem interminable. I think it's around the 15-16th that the temperature bottom occurs. Then daily averages slowly creep up. Still, it's a long way 'til Spring. I have received my first seed catalogs. That's encouraging.

Carry on.

I can't make a comment about the weather here or I'll jinx it & wake up tomorrow to two feet of snow. So -- sorry you're cold!!

Been thinking about regripping my irons. Which brand?

No clue, sorry.

I ordered all my seeds yesterday!
Dreaming of summer already.

I get my seeds from a local greenhouse. But I like to peruse the catalogs anyway.

January and February are the dark sunless months. Take double or triple vitamin D. And when March comes, clean the clubs and dust off the golf bag. (This ends today's healthy life message.)

I hope to get some Vit D today. Sunny and warm! Golf clubs are going to be regripped soon. Then, watch out!

The temperature difference between here and where I moved from (40 miles) wasn't all that great--just a few degrees colder here, which is nice in summer, but the numbers didn't say anything about the lake-effect snow. I didn't know it came this far to the center of the damn state. Every freakin day until the lakes freeze... just a bit of dry snow...enough to keep the roads wet and the vehicles covered in white salt and mud. If only... but I didn't know... anyway, that's what I can't stand about this month... too cold to clean the vehicles. Anyway, what kind of furnace do you have that requires 74-dollar filters? Geez, mine cost about $2.50 at Wal-mart.

It's one of those "accordion" style filters (for $54). Then I have a humidifier pad attached ($20). I figure I save on doing it myself.
We get a little lake effect snow, but the winds have to be perfect. Nothing like when I was growing up in South Bend!

So glad everyone arrived safe and sound and your all could be together. It is very cold and blustery here, Randy. Glad you got those furnace filters. Stay warm!

My sister and I decided on a "Christmas ham" (delayed meal), but discovered only two of us would eat it (my father and me). Nephews were vegetarians, and my daughter/SIL refused to eat a store bought ham! So I have plenty of leftovers.

I think one reason January seems so long is that there are no real breaks; and it is a 31-day-month of not very pleasant weather. By February, we have slightly milder temps and Valentine's Day to split the month. I don't know much of anyone who loves January.

I think it also has to do with post holiday blues. Doesn't affect me.

It got plenty cold down here too! Always nice to see family, especially members we have not seen in a while.

Your cold has been in the news. Of course, we're used to it. 50 today, however!
