Bad Start to a New Year

The new year came in with ferocity! 50 mph wind gusts, snow, and coooold! But, it's to be expected. Winter.

I made some cinnamon buns yest.--my first attempt. Messy dough, but worth the effort. Today, I'm going to make a rhubarb/blueberry crisp. I found some '06 rhubarb in the freezer (2011 blubes).

My nephew, wife and 2 yr old son were flying in from Washington yest. to visit all of us (mother Barbara). But their plane had "mechanical difficulties" and was grounded. You know what that means? NOT GOOD! Everything was put on hold. I'm waiting for a phone call from my sister to see when or if they made it. I hate flying.

Barb's other son, who lives in Chicago, evidently broke his collarbone while riding his bike to work. Since bad things seem to happen in threes, Barb is worried about her daughter (in S.C.).

I don't like this change in the traditional New Year's Day bowl games being played on the second of Jan. It just doesn't seem right. Pro games yesterday were poor substitutes. Besides, all but one of today's games is on ESPN, to which I no longer subscribe. Boo hiss. The Rose Bowl not on NBC? What's becoming of our world?

Hope you have a good week.

It's unbelievably warm and dry here.
Great for running, bad for x-country skiing!

That'll soon change. Be grateful.

I loved rhubarb and blueberry crisp. My neighbor next door brought us some and it was heavenly.
I watched my Patriots as they creamed Buffalo Bill.
I have not interest in the bowl games at all.
This holiday screwed up a lot of things.Hate it and glad that this will be over.
No it does not seemed rightSorry for all the mishap there.
They can watched all the football today and knock themselves out.

Down 21 to 0, N.E. made quite a run! Colts get first draft choice! And they shook up the front office. The crisp turned out great. Blueberries counter the tartness of rhubarb. I added less sugar than they asked for.

Aren't we awful. I think it cost me a marriage when my then-wife asked, "Me or football?"

The Packers game was good - didn't you watch it????
Ron is excited that he can watch a bunch of college football today... so although he is sick, he has that!
Sorry about the misfortune --- I hope it's only 2!

We got the the Saints game instead (Drew Breese went to Purdue). Sounded like a great game! So far, only 2 "bad things". I was happy to wake up this morning!

I blame it all on the BCS, the bastardization of college football. Either scrap it and go back to bowl qualifications of the good old days or have a playoff system! What a mess.

Agreed! At least the one game I could watch was a dandy (Mich St- Ga). And, I'm saving $50/mo with less sports to agonize over.

The cold bluster is blowing here, too. The snowfall is actually very pretty from the comfort of my home, where I intend to stay warm and cozy with hot lattes. Sending to safe wishes to your traveling family and healing wishes to Barb's son.

Thank you muchly. The Washington family finally made it, but it was after midnight! Verrrrry cold this morning. My backup propane heat kicked on. Calm and sunny today.
