Indiana Toss Up

Amazingly enough, Indiana polls show Obama and McCain in a virtual deadlock for the state's 11 electoral votes.
Living where I do (rural, farming community), and listening to my com padres (and sister and father), I find it hard to believe. I mean these numb-skulls think Sarah Palin won the debate last week--that she was marvelous! Where's my vomit bag? One golfing friend had the audacity to say Obama has no solutions to our problems--McCain does. "Are you kidding me?", I exploded! You can't argue with these zealots.

Anyway, McCain has no field offices anywhere in the state, hasn't visited since July 1 (and has no plans to do so), and has only recently decided to air TV ads. In the meantime, Obama has 15 campaign offices, has advertised heavily, and will visit Indianapolis this coming Wednesday.

I'm counting on the urban areas and college towns (Bloomington, Lafayette, Muncie, South Bend, Terre Haute) to swing toward Barack, squashing the redneck mindset of "Joe six-pack" and all his rowdy friends. It's still an uphill battle, and I'll be surprised if Obama wins the state. Stay tuned.

My thoughts EXACTLY!

Today's Las Vegas paper said that Obama has slightly edged out McCain in polls.

I am so disgusted by Palin that even if I favored McCain I would have to vote against him, for fear that if something happened to him, we might have to call her Madam President. She certainly does not have the strength or the dignity that Hilary possessed. I supported Obama from the start, but now I almost regret that he did not choose Hilary as his running mate. A debate between Hilary and Sarah would have been oh so entertaining!

I get a kick when the conservatives criticize Obama for being "all style and no substance", and then they rave about Palin!

The dinner I was referring to was a social event with 14 (adults) at our house.

Gee, I wonder what "demographic" you're referring to?!

I find Palin's gushing and verbiage nauseating.

I'm not a party line voter. I try to look at the platforms, past experiences and reponsible behaviors of the candidates. You are right about arguing politics--and religion. I appreciate the fact that one can go into the booth and vote the way he feels will most benefit the nation.

Much the same way that 99% of registered Democrats will vote for anyone or anything nominated by and for the democrat party, regardless of who, what, when, where, or why - ("it's the party - not the person")!!!!!

It never fails to astound me that some people can stare pointblank at a camel and still see a horse. Palin wanted to burn books in Alaska! I guess to an illiterate, that has no significance.

At dinner last night, one topic was Palin and how she was such a fool on the debate.

When I lived in NYC, I thought we were an reasonably savvy country but since moving to Florida, I realize most of the country is living in the past and wants to stay there. The soccer mom-Joe six-pack-You Betcha babe-must definitely go.

I share your hope that Obama supporters in urban areas, college towns and the impact of new voter rolls will overcome the entrenched narrow-minded McCain-Palin base. Hang on.

The Palin phenomenon is rooted in the same fabric of society that brought us W. The folksy near-illiterate who gets the votes of the folksy near-illiterates.

I think some folks think Sarah Palin is cute and would vote for her the same way they would change a tire for pretty woman but not for an ugly woman. I'm sick of hearing that Joe six-pack expression, I'm guessing Sarah Palin's speech writers invented it to make her sound folksy, but I suppose it sums up a certain demographic.
