Estivating

I confess. I learned a new word the other day. "Estivate" was in a crossword puzzle: "to pass or spend the summer".
It seems most of my posts are about my estivations. I'm certainly more active in the summer, although a second meaning of the word is "to spend the summer in a dormant condition". Definitely not me.

Things have dried out considerably around here. The septic system is in place and functioning. The ground needs leveling, but no big deal.

Went on a tour of Lafayette's Caterpiller facility Thurs. What a massive operation. I was quite amazed and impressed. I didn't understand much of the tour guide's technical talk, but a appreciated the logistics of the plant.

Personnally, I'm feeling pretty good. I had a rough first two hours of sleep last night (churning bowels), got up, had a leftover peanut butter pancake and milk, watched some late night TV bozos (awful), and slept like a log. Got up and ran 6 miles to beat the heat, ate breakfast, and got online.
Yard and garden work awaits me.

Have a great day and weekend.

Dare I say I walk 18 holes of morning golf, work all PM, then go run 3-4 miles before supper? But how else am I going to work off that rhubarb pie?

I enjoying living your active live vicariously. Keep the posts coming. LOL
We're in our rainy season, so it's muggy here even when it's not all that hot. Lots of cool showers.

Thanks. Are you still running? I've totally gotten behind in reading posts. I'm headed towards yours immediately.

I only estivate when we have a heat wave.
Estivate isn't in MyBloggers's spell checker. Come to think of it, neither is blog.
comment by nittineedles on June 26, 2010 11:14 AM ()
But my dictionary has the word. So be it.
reply by solitaire on June 29, 2010 4:18 PM ()
I've noticed blog isn't in the spell checker as well.
reply by kristilyn3 on June 27, 2010 7:17 AM ()
Well, I have a fairly broad vocabulary and estivate is new for me too.
comment by dragonflyby on June 26, 2010 11:00 AM ()
Then I don't feel too ignorant! It's from the Latin aestivus.
reply by solitaire on June 29, 2010 4:16 PM ()
Ummm estivate---I estimate that I won't be using estivate too much (spell check doesn't recognize i!!! LOL) especially regarding passing!
comment by greatmartin on June 26, 2010 9:13 AM ()
I probably will forget the word and never use it again!

Soon you will have a lot of fresh vegetables. I have had one tomato and was late with the squash.

I've been eating much lettuce, kale, chard, peas, asparagus, and now, green beans. I've also picked gallons of raspberries--both black and red. No squash yet.

We finally had a hot day yesterday, got up to 90 degrees. It didn't get that hot all of last summer, so it's been awhile, and I hope we don't have many more of them.
comment by troutbend on June 26, 2010 8:56 AM ()
With your altitude, I would think it seldom gets too hot--not 90 anyway. Do you have AC? I have central air, but haven't used it yet this year. My house is naturally cooled with basement air.

Glad your septic system is finally working. I have never heard of nor had a peanut butter pancake. I feel deprived. Lots of garden work to do here as well. Maybe next year.

Actually, it was a blueberry pancake with PB and honey smeared on top! Yummy!
