Par For The Course

Nothing Earth Shattering

Not much to say if I avoid controversial topics such as the Supreme Court's gun rights decision or anything political. Gulf oil crisis situation? Let's just say I'm not too pleased, especially since I had hoped to return to the Florida Panhandle in Jan or Feb.

I will say that it's no fun being stuck behind lousy golfers (women today). My group finally got tired of waiting, and quit. (Reason I'm home early and on the computer)

All my birds greeted me with shrieks and scolds. I have 4 nests of wrens, two of robins, and one oriole "basket". They all think this is THEIR property. Bluebirds, on the other hand, are very quiet and content. I also have red-winged blackbirds, but I ignore them. We get many other visiters passing through: gold finches, cardinals, hummingbirds, thrashers, even a scarlet tanager. No bird feeder, just flowers and garden worms.

And what's with the stock market and the economy? What happened to that so-called upswing? I'm not panicky yet, but I am concerned.

It's window washing week around here. I got four done yesterday. 19 more to go. The old storm windows are hard to get up and down, in and out. I hate this job. Anybody for hire?

Windows are not my favorite project, either. The river is roaring full again tonight (snow melt that was stored in Lake Estes), and we had a nice rain storm this afternoon. Overall, though, it's turning out to be a hot, dry summer here.

Keep your hose handy (fire danger)! I've noticed Denver has been in the 90s.

Randy, you male chauvinist....women golfers! Don't count me in that group, sweetie. I can keep up with my hubby all day long. :) You should have just told them, "Excuuuusssee me, but we are gonna play thru!" Have you ever had the opportunity of being at the Masters?
comment by gapeach on July 2, 2010 12:54 PM ()
I was hoping nobody would call me out on the "women golfers" stereotype, but you nailed me. However, after 55 years of playing with and behind women golfers, I stand by my statement. They are pathetically bad and slow, present company excluded, Nancy!

Yep, same Hayduke! My reason for leaving? Exhaustion.
Do you know what happened to Steve (looserobes)?
It's good to be back!
comment by hayduke on July 2, 2010 11:21 AM ()
Exhaustion is a pretty pathetic excuse, but I'll accept it. Steve "unretired" and is a judge again. So he thought he better not be espousing opinions over the Internet. I'm betting he'll be back in a year's time.

pay my air fare and ill come wash your windows ----now thats a good offer i reckon
comment by kevinhere on July 2, 2010 12:22 AM ()
Your offer is tempting! I think I'd rather reverse it, however.

You have such a fun time there.Nothing boring thats for sure.

Hey, what's up, Fredo? So you think I have fun washing windows and fixing golf carts? I laid bricks yest. where the septic workers boogered up my walk-way (about 3 sq ft). I actually like doing that. Hope you're enjoying your New England summer evening.

I love window washing...pity ur so far away lol
comment by itsjustme on July 1, 2010 7:40 AM ()
Really--you enjoy it? I like the final results, but it's the getting there. Glad you stopped by, Robin.

It's always something. The grill we inherited and never use tipped over at the side of the house and created a mess. Ed cleaned it up. He was not a happy man.
comment by tealstar on June 30, 2010 3:17 PM ()
Gee, I just can't imagine Ed getting upset and unhappy!

I think the oil crisis crippled our economic recovery. It scares people. So, maybe next year you can come to the panhandle anyway and help clean up oil? What a mess!
comment by dragonflyby on June 30, 2010 3:02 PM ()
It might be a good time to visit Florida (panh.). Fewer people and cheaper rates perhaps. Not that there weren't many tourists to begin with (last year). But I'm NOT cleaning up the beach.

I don't pay attention to the economy, try not to think about the golf and don't care too much about the gun control thing, mainly because I haven't focused on it. I watched The Third Jihad the other day, a documentary about what the radical muslims have in store for us, and it just made me paranoid. If I want to live a happy life I sadly need to ignore most of the world goings on...

I think both "the young" and "the elderly" ignore much of the news for just the reason you gave. Why ruin a good day with bad news!
reply by solitaire on July 1, 2010 4:32 PM ()
Don't give up your trips. Cardinals are my favorite bird. I also have two
turtle doves who bill and coo every night, visible from the back porch.
comment by elderjane on June 30, 2010 11:04 AM ()
I also have a nesting pair of mourning doves (do they really look like turtles?). I ignore them, too. And no, I won't give up traveling. I've got big plans for November!

Too bad about the golf game. The birds there seemed like fun.You have a lot of them.Yea,this is now our special thing to do is window.
I would rather paint then wash windows.
But they need to get done if you want to see out.
comment by fredo on June 30, 2010 10:20 AM ()
Clean windows do make a difference. I can see out now!! I only got 3 more done today because I had to fix my golf pull cart--the wheel fell off!
reply by solitaire on July 1, 2010 4:27 PM ()
These days, if I read the newspaper (What's that?) or listen to the news, I get depressed. The best solution is a long walk or horseback ride through the woods.
comment by hayduke on June 30, 2010 9:08 AM ()
Uhh, excuse me, but is this the same "Hayduke" that abandoned ship a few months ago? Consider yourself berated! That is, until I read a post that explains your position.
reply by solitaire on July 1, 2010 4:23 PM ()
Storm windows??? Oh that's right--I vaguely remember them and the job of putting them up and taking them down--5 years since we went through hat.

The Panhandle needs you--take the trip there!
comment by greatmartin on June 30, 2010 8:42 AM ()
The Panhandle needs me for what reason--to help clean the beach, or to aid in the economy? I might get a good deal on a rental. I am planning on returning (as of now).
