Yesterday was not a particularly good day (and I'll tell you why).
First of all, it rained overnight--5 inches worth!!! What it did to my unfinished septic system was indescribable. Mud, water, corn field debris inundated my back yard. My newly installed dosing tank floated out of it's hole (it was empty).
My garden, yard, and basement were all under water. I never saw it so bad. Oh yes, and my power was out 'til 2:46 PM yesterday. My sump pump couldn't work, not to mention anything else.
Area roads and highways were closed. One small nearby community was totally evacuated (Edna Mills, IN, for "googlers"). It's much better today.
Secondly, I lost a good friend of mine to bone cancer (age 82), and I attended his funeral yesterday (barely making it through all the high water to get there). Normally, I don't do funerals, but Bob Gray was special. We played a lot of golf together. He was always happy, friendly, and positive. He mowed his church's cemetery and donated every penny of his "salary" to my daughter and SIL for their missionary work in Honduras. No reason except he though it was a worthy cause. "It's a priviledge", he would say.
So I said my goodbyes with a few tears and a heavy heart. I have many Bob Gray stories to tell, and they'll stay with me for years to come. Yesterday was not a particularly good day.
