Why Can I never figure out the pictures?

4 years ago I was in Thailand.  It was a trip I took with one of my friends and another girl I didn't know but was good friends with by the end of our 2 weeks.  We booked our flight to/from Bangkok and our first 2 night in a hotel and figured we would work out the rest of our trip when we got there.

We spent those 2 days going around the busy and let me tell you VERY smelly streets of Bangkok.  Visited many many temples and shopped a lot.  The "taxi" they have there are called tut tuts' and they are pretty much just a carriage that can hold 3 people and a guy pulling it with a motor cycle.  You Normally have to bargain with the drivers for price or they will rob you blind for a 2 block ride.  We even had one once stop of course and took us into a store where they had closed the whole place for the 3 white women.  He must have called them beforehand.  And of course nobody speaks English when you have a complaint.

The last night in Bangkok we bought tickets to see a Moi Thai Boxing tournament.  We got VIP passes which just meant you were seated up front and they would bring your warm beer to you instead of walking to the booth yourself.  The fighting was rough brutal and bloody but the rituals they did before were beautiful.  They would play this music and the fighters would do a dance to each direction north south east west before each fight.  Well I would LOVE to get my hands on a CD of whatever song they played because every time it came on, I would pass right the hell out!! IN MY CHAIR!  And let me tell you, I am not that way at all.  I NEVER nap and it takes me over an hour at night to get to sleep so me just suddenly having a case of narcolepsy is amazing.  I would however wake up the second the song ended.

The 2nd day we were walking down the street and heard a woman behind us say "You So white" several times.  My friend is very pale skinned and was a little taken aback from the rudeness of this woman and turned around and said to her "What?"  And the lady says "You so white... so pretty...."  So we laughed and got to talking to her and told her all the places in Thailand we wanted to visit.  She suddenly has a Tut Tut driver pulled over and is pushing us in and says we are heading to a TAT which is a travel agency type place but I'm pretty sure the government owns it because there is one on almost every street.  When we get there, they are waiting for us with soda's and fresh pineapple.  The woman who helps us booked us a flight to Phucket with our room and breakfast included, a boat ride to the island Pei Pei where we got to eat a lunch, snorkel where they filmed the "Beach" and ride back.  That is Pei Pei in the picture, then we were to fly from Phucket to Chang Mai with the hotel covered and a hike up the jungle mountain to stay the night with the villagers, hike down, ride elephants, take a bamboo raft ride down the river and then back to Chang Mai to fly back to Bangkok for our flight home.  Now this was about 12 days of activities we just planned and she gives us our totals and I get out my calculator to convert to USD and the WHOLE trip was $400.  Yeah seriously only $400.  Keep in mind, this was only 5 months after the Tsunami hit so Thailand was cutting cost to tourist to try to recover.
So we hopped on a plane and landed in Phucket and let me tell you, if I ever go back to Thailand, I will go straight to Phucket and skip the rest.  It was absolutely beautiful.  We rented 3 little motor cycles to get ourselves around (at a cost of about a buck a day) and had a very nice room with a pool that we spent every night at.  We ended up finding a little tattoo shop and all of us got tattoo's.  Mine is the number 7 in Thai.  My lucky number.  However down there they thought it was funny like 7-eleven stores.  I guess 9 is a lucky number there.

Then we decide to go Bungee jumping.  Yeah.  And I'm scared to death of heights but when you are in a different country and doing things you will remember the rest of your life you just do things you wouldn't normally.  Well we get there and it's a crane over the top of a pond.  The crane was 70 meters high.  What is that in feet I do not know but it was HIGH.  So my friend goes first and she says it was great and I'm next .  We on the way up I'm asking the guy if I am going to hit the water and he tells me NO we weigh you first and adjust the ropes so you wont hit the water.  So I"m like okay then I can do this.  Well we get to the top and I knew if I looked down I would not do it so I just looked out over the top of Phucket.  Oh it was beautiful, I could have stood there all day letting my eyes take it all in.  But he started doing the count down.  Five Four Three Two One.... JUMP!!!!  So I did.  And I was SCREAMING BLOODY MURDER all the way down until..... I HIT THE WATER!!!!.  In fact I hit it with such force, it took off my shirt!!!

To Be Continued.

I won't ever bungee jump......gives me the willies just thinking about it! I haven't ever had a fascination about going abroad either.....far too many places in North America that I'd like to see first. But I think it's great for people to travel the world if that is what the want to do! Sounds like you had a wonderful time....anxious to hear "the rest of the story"......(you aren't Paul Harvey in disguise, are ya? LOL LOL LOL!!)

My wife bungee jumped in New Zealand off the Queenstown Bridge. 150 feet. heights have no effect on her. As for myself, I get nose-bleeds on foot stools.
Sounds like an absolutely wonderful trip! I can't wait to read the next installment!
By the way, how do you pronounce "Phucket" anyway?
