Retirement Is Too Far Away

Another Chapter?

I talked to R a bit more yesterday about the Farm Sanctuary dealio. I had mentioned working on building my business up while working for the Farm Sanctuary so that perhaps I wouldn't need to lean on him at all financially. He of course thought that was a wonderful idea, so I applied to the Farm Sanctuary last night for any upcoming positions in the DC area.
This makes me a bit nervous to think about. I can hear my dad's voice ringing clear in the background - what about your 401k? What about your bills? Because I know darn well that working for the Farm Sanctuary would be a significant cut in pay with no 401k options. But then I think of Gene's book (Gene is the co-founder of the Farm Sanctuary) and how his parents thought he was nuts for leaving the corporate world (or maybe he didn't go into it at all after he graduated from college, I forget) but regardless, they thought he was insane. And look at all the man has accomplished! Had he gone the corporate route many stockyards and factory farms would still remain unchecked! Well, not that they aren't now, but less awareness would be out there than there is now.
In other news, I called the vet yesterday about Kraymer's tennis ball sized swelling. She said to keep doing the warm compresses on it and to call her on Wednesday because the best option might be the drainage tube if the swelling doesn't go down. If it gets worse I am to call sooner of course.
R and I were going to go to NC to visit a friend of mine this weekend to attend a wine festival and just have a great time, but with Kraymer head going through all this crap I just don't know if we will go. I am going to check into boarding the boys at the vet in case the drainage tube is a lot to deal with (and I think it's too much for our pet sitter) so we shall see.
I have heard this before but it was on the news again recently - women who are married take on 7 hours more housework than their single counterparts. Hmmm  This has been on my brain, so yesterday morning after I emptied the dishwasher and reloaded it, I asked R when the last time he did it was. He was like ya know, I was just thinking that, but you always do it first. I was like hey, these have been clean since last night, feel free to step in anytime! Then after that conversation I left for work. When I went home for lunch I saw that the man had left his glass in the sink. Seriously? After we just chatted? So last night I was like remember how this morning I emptied the dishwasher and reloaded it? He was like yeah... then I said "Was it too much effort for you to load your one glass into the dishwasher after everything I had done?" *sigh* I assigned him vacuuming duties for before we go out of town to make myself feel better...

My SIL is the world's worst. The dishwasher can be completely empty, and he will still stack his plate, glass, and silverware in the sink.

The problems with most Americans is that they spend most of their time doing things that they really don't want to do. That makes them depressed, irritable, and even physically ill. When you look at our life spans, we really don't have a lot of time on this planet. I mean, so far, 55 years have just freaking FLOWN BY for me!
My advice is simple - do what makes you happy. For many people, there will comes a time in their lives, a lot sooner than they thought, when their mobility becomes limited. When and if that happens to you, I hope you can look back and say that you did most of the things that you wanted to do.
Don't wish your life away, and don't be afraid to live your life. We only have a limited time on this planet.

I think that is a good plan. Much better than relying soley on another person to support you financially, while it sounds good in practice if something goes wrong, they decide they don't love you anymore, they lose their job, it just makes sense. I enjoyed word smithing again last night. I got my tickets to Vegas.

Best wishes for your puppy Kraymer...as for your idea? Well the first basketball team I coached I inscribed on their medal..."Success is Living One's Dreams"...well I didn't listen to myself!

ya gotta do what will make you happy, Kris. What's monitary sucess if you are not happy in your work. Believe me, I've had my share of sucky jobs taken just to keep body and soul together. I say go for it. Hope the dear boy's swelling goes down and a tube is not necessary.

When I had an operation, I swelled for quite a while. I remember that. I just don't think that other vet did a good job. I'm so glad you have this one. Kraymer is going to be fine. Is it bothering him? Also, you should be working for the Farm Sanctuary, Kristy. I totally understand that because that's where your heart is. If I were you, once your start working there, get some extra $$ as a freelance writer for animal rights publications or something in the same vein. There's always money to be made if you look in the right places.

Well, this time I'll only think good happy thoughts for Kraymer head's speedy recovery and your future in the Farm Sanctuary!

7 hours! ...makes me happy to be single. LOL!

I am trying not to be a meat eating sexist here-oh well. Think I’ll go buy my girl friend a steak at Longhorn’s and see if I can talk her into doing my laundry.

I hope you can get a job there! total coolness! I think we take on alot more than 7 extra hours, especially if you add in kids and multiple animals.

That's so exciting! I hope an opportunity at the Farm Sanctuary opens up for you soon! When you're doing something you love, nothing else matters...Also, that's interesting about the 7 extra hours of housework. Hmm... is that weekly, monthly or annually?
