Ticks

Why were ticks invented? Sawyer had one on the back of his ear after we were exploring in the woods. I SHOULD know better and should have checked him, I guess I was holding on to false hope that it was still too cold for those f'ers. Alas I was mistaken.

We are getting some new baby chicks soon! They are just the cutest things in my opinion. We lost one to some medical condition we had no idea was occurring and then we lost another one due to a hawk. Losing Edith was sad, I felt like we failed her even though we truly thought we had built a fortress. I guess we sort of succeeded because the hawk was trapped IN the enclosure. Alas poor Edith died for nothing because the hawk couldn't get her back out. The hawk actually confronted Ron before Ron knew it was there. He said it was quite alarming, so he closed the coop doors and left the enclosure door open in the hopes the giant creature would leave. It did. Then Ron buried Edith in the yard. So! I am excited to get a few more and hopefully do a better job handling them so they will tolerate out presence. ha

I have an appointment for Sawyer for his Kindergarten registration next week. Its hard to believe both kiddos will be at school all day next year! Ron is excited for me to get a PT job... I don't think he understands how much flexibility is needed for a mom job (sick days, holidays, random school days off, summer) but I will try. I also have started back on the soap/salve journey so we shall see.

Happy Thursday all!

Ticks are scary. Sat down in a woodsy trail some years ago. Big mistake. There is some kind of cream you can use. I've forgotten what it's called. Anyway. Finally got over it. We get big birds (egrets, pelicans) in our back yard (back bay of Charlotte Harbor), but no hawks. I think that is a good thing. We do get osprey that nest in nearby chimneys and the people can't use their fireplaces.

Eek! Yeah I have found ticks on myself in not so nice places. They are everywhere here and it doesn’t help that we live on a wooded property.

Our late Rex had a tick borne virus which I suppose was Lyme disease and it stayed in his system long after he was well and had completed his medications. It is even scarier with children. Sorry about your pretty hen.

Kraymer had Rocky Mountain spotted disease or something along those lines, he seemed ok after the initial scare. Skylar has tested positive for Lyme, they have her antibiotics and that was it???

Those eastern ticks are scary, and we keep hearing how they are heading west. We have Rocky Mountain Spotted Ticks, but up until the last few years I don't think we had to worry about Lyme Disease, but now we do.

Yeah, they suck... literally and figuratively

Good grief, time does fly! Donna wants chickens or ducks which mean, I do the work and she watches them form the window or something. I'm not getting involved in either. I have enough to do keeping up with the garden. Hopefully I'll be in better shape this year. Last summer was hell with torn meniscus. It's an "internal" sort of pain like pancreatitis. Enough to make one suicidal. Can't walk, can't sleep--find a position and 15 seconds later the pain starts again. But anyway, I don't want to discourage you from getting ole. The alternative sucks!

had meniscus repair in each knee a year apart (due to aggressive ballet work), got physical therapy designed for dancers, went back to class. Did you have this surgery?

Oh Donna sounds a lot like me !!! Ron takes care of thie chicks for the most part but I love having them and the eggs.
I already feel old, I don’t look forward to what’s next.

What is the soap/salve journey? Do you make these? I worry too about ticks here in PA.

I do make salves and soaps... wolfesoapco.com. Not a ton of options just yet, but I might be headed in that direction.
