Dilaudid Nights

I'm back from the hospital again. The third attack of pancreatitis came only four weeks after the second, and fortunately, they think they have it figured out and fixed this time. The process involved another eight days in the hospital and a procedure to remove debris from the bile ducts that lead to the liver. I ended up with a blood infection from the crap that backed up, but it seems to be responding to antibiotics. Next day, a different surgeon removed my gallbladder, which was the cause of the sludge that caused the problem, and I should be fixed for good this time!

Between the pain meds and anesthesia two days in a row, I haven't had a decent night's sleep in more than a week. It sucks to lay around with pain that isn't quite under control and drift off into an altered state that really doesn't qualify as sleep. I've come to think of it as hallucinatory unawareness. What's happening in that state makes some sort of sense until you open your eyes and see what you expect to see. Anyway, that crap should be mostly out of my system soon and sleep should return to normal.

I was away over Memorial Day weekend and missed yard saleing, which is always fun. There should be another opportunity over the Fourth of July, although most of the good stuff was already sold. It was also the anniversary of the garage burning down. I planned on BBQing steaks to celebrate, but that will have to wait. Not sure how long it will be before I can eat a steak.

I started on the wood pile before this crap happened, but there is still a lot of wood to cut and split. Again, I should be in shape for that soon. Not sure exactly how they closed the little holes they go through to remove the gb, but the surgeon did say that there are no stitches to be removed. With the amount of pressure I put on my gut muscles just getting up from the hospital bed, I suspect that I will be able to move freely as soon as the pain is gone.

My first outdoor project will be bringing out the compressor and filling a flat tire on the coach. One flat leads to two if all the weight is left on one tire, so it needs to be done ASAP. I'm still planning on doing this today even if I need Donna's help. We'll fill the tire and place a block under the shackle to hold the weight if/when the tire deflates again. Somewhere along the way I'll need my buddy to help jack the thing up and plug the tire. The coach hasn't moved since April, so it shouldn't be a serious leak.

So, life goes on.... just a bit, Ok, a lot more slowly than usual. We've had heat on after a few days of near record highs, and it's supposed to warm up again starting tomorrow, so now that the hours of daylight are less than three weeks away from turning to the downward side, we will have summer.

I had my gall bladder removed when I was in my mid-30s, unusual for a young person -- there was a medical reason for it. That was the dark ages of g.b. when they used knives and stitches. I also had, for weeks afterward, a tube sticking out of my abdomen to drain the bile duct that had been scarred shut. It was a fun time. Sorry you had to go through this but at least you had the modern, no fuss, treatment.

It's been about 7 weeks now, and all is forgotten. There's a lump where the largest incision was, but I'm not a belly dancer, so no biggie. The important thing is that pancreatitis shouldn't return now that the pesky organ is gone. I don't miss it at all. Some people say they noticed after-effects, but I haven't.

You have such a way with words, Bugg! They call what I had "sludge" and it caused many problems when it blocked the duct work.

The gall bladder is a nasty little thing.

Yeah, and not all that necessary to begin with.

WHEW!! Bad day in Black Rock. Hope you'll be back on top of that wood pile soon. Gee, that reminds me.....

Yup, I feel better every day and as long as the infection is gone, I'll be fine soon.

Well, I went to the hospital. But on the other hand, I didn't burn anything down either. I planned to celebrate the anniversary of the "removal" of the old garage with a BBQ.

I know your pain. It was 13 months ago that my GB came out, according to the Doc, "Just in time." I hope you recuperate well and quickly. Don't try to do too much too quick, though. I did and came down twice last summer with pneumonia.

I do a bit at a time and rest, but as I told Fredo below, I keep getting a low fever on and off. Too many possibilities. My doc is on vacation until 13 June, so I will probably have to call tomorrow and see somebody else. There are also the two antibiotics of the E-coli; nothing should be alive in my body, but something is causing a fever.

Hope you're up and running soon. That kind of surgery heals far more quickly. You've had heat on, we've been sweating like.....(ah, you fill in the blank...)

They knew that there was a lot of inflammation. The doc said that they would insert the cannula through the main hole, but they continue the old fashioned way if the inflammation was too great. I counted bandaids as soon as I woke up and there were 4 holes!!

Best wishes for a speedy recovery. I didn't know that about one flat can cause others, but it makes sense.

Let me explain the tire thing for folks who aren't experienced with tandem axle vehicles: There are two wheels on each side of most travel trailers and fifth wheels. Let's say one axle/wheel/tire is rated to hold 1800 pounds. Two wheels can hold 3600 pounds. If the axles are actually holding, lets say 2400 together and one tire drops out, the remaining tire is over-loaded by 600 pounds. Any weakness in the tire or valve will eventually be expressed as a flat. Of course, this doesn't happen with cars and trucks because of how the wheels are positioned in the corners.

Glad to hear you are doing better--hospitals kill people!!!

Funny--no matter what happens in life there are always 'things' waiting for you to do at home!

Thanks Fredo. The infection is a concern... I keep getting fever and I don't think that was expected.
