Sludge

It's good to be back online! I spent five days in the hospital again (without a smart phone) with another bout of pancreatitis. This is a repeat of the experience 22 months ago, although I didn't stay sick for quite as long. This time, they have come up with a more reasonable explanation of the cause. Last time they blamed it on one of my blood pressure meds (HCTZ) and had me discontinue that. Good plan, but it didn't work for even two years.

This time, they did an ultrasound instead of a CAT scan and saw sludge in my gallbladder. If the sludge is still present on the next ultrasound in three weeks, they'll yank the organ and that should be the end of pancreatitis.

I prefer not to lose body parts, so I will be avoiding excessive fat for now. If the sludge is gone, I'll continue to avoid fat and that should put an end to pancreatitis.

I've been reviewing my memory of the events before both incidents and I have noticed that both times, Donna was away and I ate food and quantities that differ from the norm. Yup, when the cat's away the mouse gets into the fat. Now that I have a reasonable hypothesis of the cause, I have a good chance to beat it.

Unfortunately, the weather is also as crappy this year as it was two years ago. Last year was beautiful beginning in April--we were mowing grass. Now it's May, and although the grass finally needs mowing, it is so wet that it won't happen for days. I also have the load of logs that was delivered that I haven't started on, but at 42 degrees with rain, I'm not motivated to get outside, even if I had my normal amount of energy.

I suppose that if one has to spend time going from one doctor's appointment to another it might as well be done in the rain. But that's not what I want from summer. I didn't mention that the day before the pancreatitis hit, I had glaucoma surgery again to redo what they did in October. Turns out it went well, but there are regular appointments for that, to check the pressure. Very boring, but recovery is at least heading in the right direction.

Nothing interesting is coming to mind. The event behind the recent headlines doesn't really count for much, so I won't even mention that. Although my liberal friends will be pleased to know that a New York Times news alert that came in email earlier said that the Prez's approval rating went up. Not totally unexpected, but nice to see. I think an upturn in the economy will be the determining factor in the '12 election as well whether Obama is responsible for it or not.

Happy summer!

Hope things are perking along and you are feeling great. You wouldn't miss your gallbladder and after removal could eat as much or little fat as you want - personal experience here.

That's good to hear. My doc (who wouldn't make a dime if I have the gb removed) also believes that I no longer need the gb. Ultrasound is on Friday. I am developing a food phobia, LOL Not good when yer afraid of your food.

Sorry to hear that you've been under the weather. Speaking of weather, it's been crappy here, too. Looks like lake season won't even start until the middle of June. Take care of yourself!

The weather link on your page says it's 71 down there. That would be wonderful (although a bit warm for this hour of night). I haven't been able to wear shorts yet this spring (although others have). This year is crap compared to last year. Hopefully it will dry out by the end of the month and we will have a good planting season. Last year we had ripe tomatoes by the end of July! That was a first that I'd like to repeat. I spent a few hours outside today and I'm regaining some energy. Looks like I'll be in good shape for awhile. Thanx for stopping by!

I am so sorry you are having this trouble. Here is a cheering thought!
I went home at one after having my gall bladder pulled out of three little
holes. I did laundry and cooked supper that night. I was a little bit
sore but otherwise no problem. It seems that we do not need that
organ and left in it only causes trouble. Ted had trouble with his
surgery because he let it go until it got infected and he was in the
hoispital a week getting the infection cleared up. Don't let that
happen to you.

My ex had hers removed through the three holes at three in the afternoon and they gave her the option of spending the night which she did. The glaucoma surgery I've been having is also an afternoon thing and I'm usually awake and ready to go within three hours from start to finish. If this experience gets me to change my eating habits it will be a blessing in disguise. Unfortunately, most of us need a wake-up call before we are willing to make changes.

These "golden years" aren't half as golden as I was promised.

Yeah, this kind of thing can be discouraging. My plan is to drop a few pounds. They (whoever they are) say that even a modest weight loss makes a big difference. I know it would benefit my knees. Hopefully I can get back on track.

Through a combo of factors, I had a diseased gall bladder in my mid 30s and it was removed and the bile duct was repaired, a major deal back then when they cut instead of lasering. I don't need it. I have done well ever since. I can eat fat. Everything in moderation. Don't mind about losing a trouble-making, unnecessary, left-over from cro-magnon man body part. paeearly physiological era, body part.

I plan to eat less fat if I keep the gb, so eating less fat if they remove it won't really be a sacrifice. Unfortunately, the little voice is telling me that I can eat more fat after it's gone, but I think I can silence that sucker.

Yeah that makes sense about the food you are eating making a difference! But fat is sooo good so I don't blame ya one bit. But here's to hoping you can solve the problem yourself and not lose a body part!

Popular opinion seems to be that the gb isn't all that important. The surgeon at the hospital is ready to remove it. My local appointment is more of a second opinion. If this guy wants t yank it also, I won't argue the point.

Nice of you to stop by and sorry for all of the ordeals that you are going through. You need to more careful and try to eat healthy food.
Although I was not the one for the fat and do understand that a lot of them out there loved this and very hard to give up some of them.
Just like smoking etc.Take care and lets have a healthy one.
This may be a scare for you?who knows take care.

I am eating much less fat, at least for the present, so that's a good thing.

One thing that you aren't warned about is that when you get old(er) you spend a heck of a lot of time going to, sitting in offices, and seeing doctors. After a few years of that I laid down the law to all (8) of them--you will see me only in June or July for yearly check up unless I am feeling sick--funny but I have been healthier than ever since!

I had to explain things to the surgeon's secretary. I am not traveling 170 miles round trip so he can check my pressure when my local ophthalmologist can do it all and fax a report. I had to leave the hospital last Friday and take a cap to the local doc's office, and the pressure was good and everybody seems happy for now. I have an appointment on Monday with an even more local guy (3 miles away) for another check. But they'd have me traveling to Albany every other week if it was up to them.
