The day started with a misadventure. I had put my car keys on the ledge of the trunk, put some packages in it and inadvertently slammed the trunk shut with my keys inside. I went into Radio Shack and the clerk had to call six locksmiths to get one who would come out. I had to wait 45 minutes for him and then when he got the door open, Pearl (my car) thought she was being stolen and started honking and would not let up. She triggered other cars in the parking lot and they started honking also. She wouldn't let us release the trunk from the inside and I was too dumb to know that I could have called onstar and got it stopped. The locksmith had to get in to the trunk by going through the place in the seat that you can remove and getting the latch held down when I pulled up on the trunk lid. When a woman I know walked up and saw his legs dangling out the door, she gave me a horrified look and wanted to know if she could help but by that time it was all over.
Naturally, the ordeal had me so tired that I just wanted to go home but it wasn't sensible because we live twenty miles from Shawnee so I went to Dillards and they were having their good bras on sale for 9.99. I bought two and went to CVS for a lipstick and then to the bank and my pharmacy. I Gstill needed library books so I started to go there when I
noticed a great deal of activity around the Salvation Army store which is across the street from the library. People were lugging stuff out and others were carrying large furniture. I had to go in even though by that time I was really tired. I found a Cardio Glide machine and tried it out. I really liked it so I bought it for 49 dollars and begged them into holding it for me until Ted could go get it in the Suburban.
When I got home at 3:30, Rex was waiting for me in the road which made me feel guilty. He was so delighted to see me that he went and found Ted and ran about twenty circles around us.
We had three bottles of wine that we wanted to try out. A French Rose, an Italian Cabernet and a Merlot from Chili.
The one from Chili was the cheapest and by far the best. We snacked and drank wine, listened to music, lit all our candles and made a big fire in the fireplace. The ambiance was terrific and we saw 2009 in.
I woke up this morning with loads of energy, almost as much as Mrs. Troutbend's cousin. I hope you had a good New Years Eve and Happy New Year to all of you. We forgot to eat blackeyed peas though.
