Twisters

I have lived in Oklahoma all of my life and have never seen
a tornado. Yesterday, they were firing up all around us and
we spent the afternoon glued to the television set. A mile
wide tornado hop scotched across Oklahoma City, Edmond,
and rural areas while another came from the south and
attacked Blanchard, parts of Norman and did it's worst
damage in Shawnee where it devastated a trailer park. At one time there were two tornadoes in Shawnee.

We prepare as best we can and sleep with a weather radio.
We round up water, blankets, canned food and important papers
and put it all in the safest room with the most walls. We
dress in clean day clothing for bed with our shoes and
motorcycle helmets ready to grab. It might not help us but
at least we know we have done all that is possible and it
comforts us.

All the public shelters have been closed. Back in the days
of compassion and good will, church basements and other
public shelters were available. Liability and petty theft
are the reasons that they are no longer open.

We have two more days of these highly unstable conditions.
When mother nature is on a rampage, it gets very scary.

Oklahoman's are risk takers. Every house should have a
safe room or a basement. Maybe next spring.....we will
get around to it.

How awful! Been watching the news and I notice that today's two-mile wide funnel passed about ten miles from your address. I can only pray that you and our other Oklahoma friends are ok.

Tornadoes seem to be drawn to trailer parks. We rarely have them here in Colorado, but when we do, a trailer park is always involved. A couple of years a bad one snuck past the forecasters, and it couldn't find a trailer park, so it killed a guy in a pickup camper, almost the same thing as a trailer park.

Mike is going to give you a call tonight. We have been watching the weather report on this.
Right now for us just heat and humidity and possible tshowers.
This is going to be interesting to see how Ruby react to this.

I missed the weather news but gratified you were not affected. Hurricane season for us starts in June and lasts thr. Nov. 30. We are warned in advance and told where the shelters are, but they won't take animals. Our house is an exceptionally sturdy one. We always stay. Our premiums are high because we are on the water. We are sheltered from the Gulf by small islands between us and it. We're counting on that.

We learn to cope as best we can. I am not particularly anxious about the
storms. I am glad our house was built before many short cuts were taken
in construction. I think of all of you when weather is threatening.

The trailer park made the new this morning and I was wondering how close to you it was. I really don't know how people live under that kind of stress. I'm concerned about the dogs on Wednesday when we go out and thunderstorms are predicted. The thought of the house being gone when we got home would really be overwhelming. We get floods and I lose sleep running the gas pump when that happens, but for the most part, this is a safer area than many parts of the country. I remember a greaser (I think it was Susil) explaining why houses in some areas don't have basements. Sounds like you don't have one either. So all you can do is what you say, prepare as well as possible and hope for the best.
Good luck.

I have lived with these threats all of my life so it is not as stressful
as one might think. When I was a child, we were marched to the cellar every
time there was a cloud in the sky. The trailer park was about eighteen
miles from us. We vow every year to get a storm cellar but never do it.
Rex is terrified of storms.

Been concerned about you!

Thank you for thinking of us. I hope the cats aren't as aware of changes in
barometric pressure as Rex is. He clings to me like a leach.

I was so concerned for you as the weather reports came in. Really awful storms! Thank you for letting us know you are okay. Keeping a weather eye as the storms move east....

We are under a tornado watch now and Ted has a dental appointment. We will
go but it is worrisome.
