On Trying to Be Efficient

I have spent the last few days getting all the utility bills and many of the others automatically deducted. With
postage having gone up so much and lots of bills being
lost in the mail, it just seemed best.

According to Ted and to other people who have worked in the postal system, it is not a plesant place to work. Going
Postal is part of our everyday language.

I dread going to the post office because of the long lines I always encounter. It is maddening to see employees take
their breaks when l5 people are in line.

Small town post offices are a horse of a different color and
I guess they spoiled me. There was never a line and it was a friendly outing. The local gossip was always entertaining and nobody left the customers standing while
they talked on a cell phone or took a break.

I pay most of my bills online. I too absolutely hate to go the post office and get p.o.'ed when the employees take breaks with huge lines of people needing help. But, I guess that's another indicator of why the postal system is going broke. People would rather use UPS or Fed Ex where they can get in and out in less than an hour. Plus, they tell you exactly when your package will arrive. The post office can't even give an approximate day half the time.

I only pay one bill by check and I can give that to the driver if I'm here when he comes. The Delhi PO is pretty efficient, but the one up the line... not even a small town, really, just a few buildings.... she's *always* on the phone. She'll put the phone down if need be, but she'll sell stamps and weigh a letter and keep right on yapping.

Pretty soon we will be a paperless society and the post office keeps wondering why they lose money.

In Queens, NY the Forest Hills P.O. was a nightmare. Ed would sometimes drive us to another neighborhood, less congested. In Manhattan, the Grand Central P.O. had lines, but the system was organized and I didn't mind so much because there were a lot of agents. You could get a date waiting in line, anyway.

The people standing in line at my post office are not date worthy, and since they always look aggravated there is not even any conversation.

A lot of our bills are paid directly from the bank account, and it is so convenient. I prefer that to putting them on a credit card with auto pay because when someone hacks into the credit card company and the company issues new cards to us, it's such a hassle contacting the vendors with the new number.

That is my method of preference too. I just lost my credit card and my
library card or was pick pocketed so I am having that hassle now.

Instead of waiting here in town in the post office line for a half hour, I drive five miles to the tiny PO in the little village where I gre up. Never a line there, and the postmistress is talkative and friendly. She is a "townie" and I am still considered one. It may cost me a little gasoline but it is better than all that B.O. and bullcrap of being 15th in line.

It saves the wear and on your disposition so what is five miles in the grand scheme of things.

I use on-line bill pay and order stamps from the post office on line too. I even arrange for priority mail shipment on-line and print my postage labels at home. I will find any means to avoid going out or going to the post office.

Oh my goodness is there EVER a difference btw country and city post offices! I was at the lake and had to mail something and I stopped in at the post office near the house and it looked like a house. I asked my mom if she was sure it was the post office and she assured me it was. There was one lady sitting in there and no one else for miles. It was awesome. I wish they were all like that!

The postal service would have a better reputation if they were.
