Strange Happening

First of all, let me say that I have a shredder and I use
it so I can't imagine how it happened but a check that I
wrote for l47.l0 was never dated or filled in but signed and
marked void was cashed at Chase bank. Somebody scribbled over
the signature and it was still cashed with void written over
it.

I always scrutinize my bank statement and my credit card
bills and called my bank. They said to come in and dispute
it. The more I thought about it the madder I got at whoever
did this and how brazen they were to cash it. I called the
police and asked them if it was too trivial to pursue and
they assured me it was not and came out and got a copy of
that portion of my bank statement. Now I have a case number
to show the bank. The policeman and I both thought Chase
should be responsible. How stupid was the teller who cashed
it? Stupid beyond belief!

Well, I am not going to let it ruin my day. It is a little
cooler than usual and Ted has gone to get his medicine.

It is almost time to pick up the girls. I look forward to
it. Adrienne went to a school dance last night with her
boyfriend Dakota meeting her there. She is about to despair
that he will never catch up to her in height but she said
it was ok until she got a better offer.

One of these days she'll be looking up to Dakota. Story about the check is unbelievable. How can people be that stupid?

The check issue should be pursued. I concur with the others here. It's the bank's responsibility to look at the signature. That's the whole point behind making you sign those silly signature cards a hundred times. Besides, Chase is big enough to be good for it.

It was even worse, this person was able to transfer all our savings to the
checking account. Luckily there is a hold on both accounts now and we have
opened new accounts which should take care of it. It was all done
electronically. I may start using a credit card that I pay off at the
end of the month instead of writing so many checks. We can't find out
how it was done until Monday.

Too bad that happened, but glad you took action. That was stupid for the bank to cash it. Void means void! Now, at least they will run down who cashed it

The person did it all electronically. See my comment to Jerms.

While not exactly a small amount of money ($147 or$47?), at least it wasn't a really large sum. Hopefully Chase will reimburse you.

If they hadn't attempted to steal our savings too, I wouldn't be so upset.

In the meantime, I have only three checks, most of my bills are paid
electronically and that all has to be changed. Monday will be chaotic.

Chase is responsible for that check because the bank maintains the your signature card on file and is held responsible for verifying the signature. It's not your signature if it's got VOID written across it.

Someone scribbled across my signature and deposited it electronically.

Glad you called the cops. I'm with you raising holy jumped up hell with the bank!

Let this be a warning. If they are sophisticated electronically they can
do almost anything with very little information.

How frustrating that with all your precautions, you still got stung. Let us know how it turns out. Adrienne sounds totally in control. My teen years were a mess and one of my pet peeves was that whenever friends (or adults) thought of pairing me up with someone, they always chose someone who was short because I was so petite. And I remember thinking "Yeah, they're making him feel better but what about me?"

Well, it turned out to be much worse since they transferred our savings to
checking and were trying to score big. My account is IBC and they are
trying to put the money in a Chase account. I opened new accounts and am
changing my pin no. Monday morning first thing.

Good for you. They may never find out who cashed your voided cheque but maybe they can find out which teller cashed it and point her in the direction of a career change.
comment by nittineedles on Aug 26, 2011 3:43 PM ()
A teller wasn't involved. All this was electronic.
reply by elderjane on Aug 28, 2011 5:45 AM ()
yes, that teller should be fired. How stupid of this person to cashed the check with void. But a little confused it this was void how did the person get the check?Teller should be responsible for this. With the check there this is evidence?

I evidently lost the check out of my purse. That is the only way I can
account for it. I am going to talk to the police again once we are sure
the bank didn't make the savings transfer automatically because of overdraft
protection. I had to start all over with holds on the old accounts and
then open new ones.

Wow - GOOD FOR YOU for talking to the police about it, I am glad they came out to do a report. This will help catch the culprit.
Enjoy the cool!!!

I am going to start using my credit card and then pay it off each month
instead of writing a lot of checks.
