Roasted and Toasted

The elements have certainly kicked ass and taken names. It
seems no one has been spared from some kind of climate disaster. The earthquakes seem to be global, a hurricane is
coming to the coast of Florida and the Carolinas and we had
a small earthquake that I didn't feel a day or two ago. It
was l08 in the shade yesterday when I went to pick up the
children.

My tomatoes have wilted to death but are still trying to
produce tiny green tomatoes and putting on new foliage. My
knockout roses are the size of a dime but they keep trying
too. I have lost all but two hydrangeas. I would plant
some shallots for fall if I could find the package and I
would like a butternut squash so I may just get new seed
packs if I can find them.

My political party is begging for money but I finally had to
quit. I even got a picture of Michelle Obama in one of the
mailings.

I am so glad to see Fredo has returned. His new camera is
amazing.

I know. It got cool night before last but is back up to it's usual heat
today. 90 feels really cool to me now.

A storm blew through Northwest Ohio last night, leaving us with cooler weather. Tonight it will get into the 50s, welcome bliss for sleeping with a light comforter. Ahhhhh! I send my sympathies for your plants. All my herbs dried up, too. Alas. Sigh.

I am sorry for your herbs. I have a rosemary bush.

We had a long, cooling rain here today. Maybe it will work its way to you, but looking at your forecast, it doesn't look likely.

We were expecting something from your cool down but it didn't get this far.

Our tomatoes did not fare too well this year.
Cherry did but not the regular size.
Eggplant not producing anything.Though did see a small one there hiding.

The grocery had some good ones late in the season but not as good as
homegrown ones.

Although it has been too hot here, even for Florida, we have been spared extremes endured by other places and we don't expect to get much from Irene that is expected to go East. I'm counting our blessings (have to count for Ed too since his M.O. is always DOOM).

I'll bet he is preparing like mad just in case it comes close. I worry
about all of you who are near the coastline. If it comes to NYC or near
the nuclear plants we are all in for trouble.

The hurricane Irene missed us but it rained all day yesterday and was probably miserable where Martin lives. Washington DC had an earthquake too a few days ago. Now, all we need is the doomsday sayers to tell us that the end of the world is nigh.

I don't need another doomsday sayer, Ted is always telling me that the
world is coming to an end.

Yeah I am debating if I need to stock up on water and batteries... I guess it's better to be safe than sorry, but I will be taking the risk of R calling me crazy.
comment by kristilyn3 on Aug 25, 2011 6:58 AM ()
Do stock up and take the risk. Everyone needs some extra bottles of water.
I always keep a back pack stocked in case we have to run from a tornado.

We felt the earthquake here, I didn't know what it was at the time. I thought I was just having a dizzy spell. Hope the heat breaks for you! We had a few days of 100+ and that was about all i could stand.
comment by elkhound on Aug 25, 2011 6:47 AM ()
We had a tiny earthquake as the same time you had the big one and now Irene
is coming to visit. Hope it misses you.

We had a little rain last night, for which we are thankful, but I am afraid the temperature is going right back up and the humidity will be stifling.
We have now had 53 days since June with the temperature 100 or better. 13 more, well within the realm of possibility, and we break a record that has held since 1898.
