A Novel You Can't Put Down

Save this one for a lazy day because it is one you simply
can't put down. It is set in the south in the present day.
It deals with murder and an amphetamine culture that literally curls your hair and makes you wonder how many speed
freaks the author actually knew. One of whom is a fire and
brimstone preacher who gets mixed up with a snake handler
and his religion.

The novel is about two children who set out to kill the
man who killed the l2 year old girl's brother. I haven't
finished it yet. It is not a gloomy novel and some of the
things the meth dealers do and their addiction and family
life would be funny if they weren't so inherently sad.

The name of the book is The Little Friend by Donna Tartt.
Yesterday was a horribly busy day for me as I had a
club meeting in the morning where we had an additional
new member who has joined our group. She is delightful
and has just moved here from Holland. I also had to gas
up the car and go to the commissary and pick up the girls.
When it cools off just a little, I go out and drag the hose
around trying to keep my plants alive. I didn't get much
reading time at all. The news said yesterday that we were
the hottest state in the United States. It was l06 yesterday.

I am trying not to let the Holly bush get out of hand but
I cannot reach the topmost ball of it. I guess I will have
to get out the big ladder for that.

Wow, I read this but was not signed in, signed in and forgot to come back. I don't know if I would like this book because I have dealt with addictions first hand, but the Social Animal sounds good.

I hope Ed gets you a copy. I had never read anything by her before but her
description of the meth addicts was worth the whole book. They didn't even
go to bed at night and never slept until they literally crashed to the floor.
I can't wait until it is cool enough to walk in the evening.

I tend to get into thinking books, like The Social Animal, and it has been ages since I've read a real page turner. Maybe The Little Friend will be it. We'll see! So sorry the heat is broiling you at home. Man, when will this summer end for you all??

We are hoping for a storm or just anything to break this cycle of heat. School children are not allowed outside for recess and have to take their
breaks in the gym.

sounds like an interesting book! And yes, you had a very busy day... I had no idea you were in the hottest state... I am glad I am not.

Count your blessings. Did you feel the earthquake? You need to tell us
about it.

It is really a good book and I finished it last night. Are you cool in N.H.
but of course you are a really cool guy.

I'll see if the library has The Little Friend. Ed goes to the library often and I'm never ready to go with him and he forgets to get what I ask for. Sorry you are sweltering. I am about to walk in the sun because intelligence doesn't go far when you are a procrastinator and should have walked at 7 a.m.
I got sick trimming our tall bush a while back. Be careful. xx, T.
