Speed Thrills

A 95 year old Norman, Oklahoma woman traveling at a high rate of speed, crashed through an iron gate and drove
straight into the lake where witnesses were unable to rescue
her. Was it suicide? Was it mechanical failure? Was she
having a stroke? What in the heck caused this? This item was in our very biased newspaper, The Daily Oklahoman. No
explanation.

Sht happens doesn't it.

I just got back from taking some breakfast items to Avis.
Tomorrow morning will be the last morning in her house,
Things could not have worked out better for her. The house
is sold, the woman who bought the house bought what furniture that she had left and she sold her car to a
neighbor who let her use it until tonight. She will
stay here tomorrow night and Phyllis will pick her up and
take her to the airport Friday morning.

I got tired of looking at Ted's dirty Suburban and I took
the step ladder and string mop outside and washed it with
the mop dipped in soap suds. It is too tall for mne to
see the top without a ladder but by the time I had it rinsed
it looked pretty good.

Tomorrow I clean and rearrange the pantry.

Did I mention it rained yesterday and today? I am so
glad. It should cut down on the fires and allow the grass
to stay green a little bit longer.

She most likely had a stroke and couldn't control the car. BUT-- if she wanted to commit suicide, what a way to go!
I've often thought if I wanted to suicide, I'd gun the engine and drive off into a pretty lake near here--then recently heard that alligators are infesting that lake--oops--don't wannna get eaten by those beasts.

I worry about my 93 yr old father driving. He still thinks he's 35. I have a truck and pantry that could a little TLC. Are you available?

Cleaning is not my thing. Avis was sad about her car but has realized
she should not drive any longer.

Rain! We need some now too.

My son says that a law has been passed so that elderly people must take
a drivers test. I don't believe him because my neighborhood is full of
little old ladies that can barely see over the steering wheel.

I would have guessed it rained... you washed the car!
I don't know many 95 year-olds that should still have drivers licenses. Yes there are some, but this poor lady... Hope they look at the car to see if it was some kind of mechanical failure.

I wonder if it was one of those runaway Toyotas. I had an accelerator
stick once and it was terrifying.

At her age in driving?time to hang it up

You are so right Fredo. It is hard to give up your independence and when
you are unable to drive, you are left dependent on public transportation
which there is very little of.

I applaud this woman. She must have been a fun person. I don't think
age matters in a relationship if you love each other and are a caring
person. But of course, I have been called unconventional.

P.S. Does The Oklahoman's bias have anything to do with the way they reported the story of the speeding woman? Maybe it was suicide. Maybe she was impressed with the film "Thelma and Louise" and thought it was a great way to go. Just a thought.

Our newspaper gives the same twist to the news as Fox news. If that
debt crisis is not resolved we are all in alot of trouble, yet they keep
worrying about the burden being on the backs of generations to come.
As for that lady, my feeling is that she lost control of her car.

Hi ms Jeri, I too have projects that I see every day and remind myself to get to them. But doing daily maintenance eats up all my time, let alone, cleaning out the closet or weeding the entryway (now overgrown, disgusting).
I applaud your energy. Glad Avis got squared away.

Yes, I almost picked up on that pantry cleaning plan to point out that I can sense disorganization clear from here to Midwest City, Oklahoma.

You will laugh about this one. Laura is a domestic Goddess and the best
cook that I have ever known with the exception of my grandmother. When
I have to clean the pantry, I always pretend that she will be here tomorrow
and if she is here she will make pies and have to look in the pantry.

I was just reading about a 78 year-old woman in the next town who was killed riding in a home-made dune buggy driven by a 69 year-old man, and she died when a driver in a Chevy Blazer didn't see them coming after she stopped at an intersection then pulled out in front of them. Everyone had seat belts fastened. If a person has to die, at least be doing something fun, and look at her, she had a younger boyfriend.

oops Laura, your reply is above.

Yikes! I wonder if she had a heart attack or something behind the wheel? Poor thing... wow. Good for you for cleaning the car! You are active!

My stepfather drove straight into the lumber yard once because he had his
foot on the accelerator and not the brake. When questioned, he said
"I don't know how it happened, but it happened and that is all I am going
to say about it. I think that may have happened to this woman.
