The Saga of a Fearful Leak

Our bathroom is tiled everywhere and we recently had carpet
taken up in there and travertine put down on the floor in
there. When I got a l70 dollar water bill, I called the city
because I was hoping the meter was faulty. No such luck!
I called the plumber and he sent out the biggest, fattest
guy who told me the leak was under the slab. Since I had
a problem about twenty years ago that was similar and they
were able to fix it without damaging anything, I asked the
owner to come out and look before we broke any tile. He
said we could get a leak specialist for an extra 250 who
could pin point the damage and keep it to a minimum. I said
bring him on. Two months went by and we agreed to wait until
we got home from our trip. In the meantime we were confined
to the guest bathroom.

I was at the point of desperation and resumed calling them
after we got back. We got a call that they would be out
between one and three. Three o'clock rolled around and no
plumbers. About three thirty, the original big fat plumber
came accompanied by one even bigger and fatter. The reason
I call attention to their size was because they have to get
in some really tight places. The second plumber found the
leak in 30 minutes and they had it fixed by 5:30 without
breaking any tile. Plumber no. two said they should have
sent him out first thing and I agreed. He was elated
and bragging that he did better than the owner of the
plumbing company. I praised him highly.

Now, I have to wait for the bill. I have a lot of respect
for these huge guys that contort themselves into strange
positions and do these nasty jobs. I stick with this
plumbing company because they have always been fair and
honest even if they are the busiest plumbers in town.

My appliances have been on some kind of vengeful tear. The garbage disposal sprung a leak, the microwave had a short in
it and now the toaster is acting up. It took Ted forever
to put the garbage disposal in and now it is fixed. The
microwave is trashed and I have a new one, the plumbing
leak is fixed and I will see about the toaster. It isn't
a priority.

Glad you got the leak fixed without damage. Ed resists calling plumbers. He sometimes tries to fix something, curses and spends lots of time, gives up and calls the plumber, and the plumber comes in and moves a thingy and it's fixed and Ed is furious because he "cudda done it".

Wow, your "fix-it" lists is almost as long as mine!

Ugh. I hate when "things" happen.

Are your appliances in revolt against you? You must treat them nicely, Jeri. An all-out war could spell disaster!

Me too, I hate being in an uproar.

I hope you don't have a Toastess corn popper because that will be the next to go on the fritz.
Our appliance repair guy is also rotund and I marvel at the way he gets into tiny spaces.

No, I rely on the microwave for corn popping.

I'm so glad it got fixed without damage to your house. Our town plumber when I was a kid smelled so bad! I don't think it's an occupational thing, I think that was his personal problem because the ones I've met since were very clean and odor-free.
comment by troutbend on Dec 11, 2011 1:30 PM ()
These guys didn't smell but they had been doing something dirty because their
clothes were muddy.

Sounds like your on the upside. I think I should blog about Bubba and what isn't getting finished here.
As long as ya have heat, I guess it's cool.

Bubba needs to hurry up. It is awful having repairmen in the house and I
feel lucky that I only had the plumbers for two hours.
