We all have our opinion about beauty and the arts. Language turns me on and I am talking about old English like th at used by Geoffrey Chaucer and later by Shakespeare and the King James Bible. I am fond of archaic words.
I like nearly all kinds of music but do not have a discriminating ear and can't talk intelligently about it.
However, my heart beats faster and I get excited when I enter an art gallery. I had the good fortune to visit the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam. It gave me such a sense of awe and of being in the presence of genius that was unequaled. My favorite artist at the moment is Otto Aguiar, a Brazilian, who died recently. He was an extremely beautiful man who started life as a fashion model, became a fashion illustrator and then a painter. He mostly painted his wife and himself as they were in their youth.
We all go with what we love and what enriches our lives.
We need hyacinths for the soul. Judith Anderson brought genius to the stage. I saw her do Lady McBeth and it was a riveting performance. Ted and I and Bobby and Ellie went to see McBeth, a local production in the round and didn't think Lady McBeth or the witches were nearly as good as they could have been given the great roles.
Savor all the beauty that you can while you can. It lasts and you always have it. I will always be glad that I got to hear Maria Callas sing before her too early death. I am trying to say that life is impermanent and now is all you have. Make the most of it. Carpe Diem. Jeri
