Kissing Don't Last ... Cooking Do

I have been working in the yard all afternoon. We got a
perfect day with no wind and I went to the garden store
and splurged. I got 2 large pots of gerbera daisies and
three pots of new guinea impatiens. I also picked up plant
hangers for the back porch and another hanging impatien.

Ted has difficulty understanding or believing that you
have to plant different plants for the south facing front
yard and the north facing back yard. I got by with covering
our plants when we had the cold snap. I still have to
work on the backyard a lot.

Today is my daughter's birthday. We had a nice surprise.
Out of the 200 interning teacher's at her university, Sara

Scroll down I goofed.

was voted to be the best and most outstanding. However,
she failed to realize that she had to have a teaching
certificate and didn't take the test because it cost 200
dollars. Sara is generous to a fault. She got the honor
because she had spent so much time giving free lessons to
the kids who were interested. She had to learn to be
proficient in every band instrument to get her degree.
She loves the flute the best.

I had the little girls who are not so little for dinner
because their mother had to conduct a workshop. Bobby
had called me griping about Ellie's lack of cooking but
I encouraged him to appreciate her efforts in other areas.
It reminds me of the old Pennsylvania Dutch saying, "Kissing
don't last, cooking do"

The problem with some flowers needing lots of sun and others being shade tolerant is one I am facing right now as I am thinking about putting flowers out front again.

When a woman works, it is sometimes hard to muster the energy to get that meal on the table.

Yes, it is. I used to put something together in the crockpot in the
mornings but I am an early riser.

Skipping the test for the certificate - hope she can get that straightened out without a lot of trouble. Live and learn!

She is taking the test the last of this month. One of the band directors
is trying to create a job for her but with little money for education, music
and art go first.

I am not sure if they grow in your neck of the woods. Impatiens are a shade plant but the new guinea ones can tolerate some sun. The gerbera
is the ultimate daisy. They come in all colors and look too perfect to
be real.

My neighbor downstairs is expanding from her deck to side public area with flowers/herbs, nice table for us all. As a renter I wouldn't have done that, but they just do it. Some are in pots some in the ground, nice to see, she does all the work:>

I will be doing all of the buying when back from the holiday.
So,what happen to the kissing part.

You will have to ask the Pennslyvania Dutch for the answer to that question. Seriously.

"gerbera daisies and ... new guinea impatiens" Maybe some pictures are in order.

I goofed. See above.

Evidently, it was the financial toll of good delivery places that they
were fussing about. Laura and I have great tips for cooking at home
with little fuss but there is always the darned clean up.

Despite my poor weather, you've reminded me to go buy flowers for my pots. Maybe not today, but soon.
comment by solitaire on May 4, 2011 6:33 AM ()
I like to start early and cover them when I have to.

Thanks for reminding me how fun it was to have a flower garden. Ahhh, so lovely! May everything grow and bloom happily. I'm planning an indoor herb garden. Picking up the seedlings soon....

A perfect day in May is like a jewel. I have a pot of sweet basil and
one of Cilantro and rosemary in the garden.

Ed has a European sense of women in the home. I have, for the most part, retrained him not to expect 24/7 maid service.

Ah, 24/7 maid service is every man's dream!

Great day for working in the yard!!

It was absolutely a wonderful day. It is rare that we don't have wind so
violent that it pulls the hat right off your head.

If that last thing you said is true, R and I had best stay close to good delivery places.
