Some Good Things

I thought I would tell you some good things about Oklahoma
City. It has been voted the most affordable city in the
United States. Housing costs are very reasonable and
our unemployment rate is only 6.3 percent which is well below
the national average.

People are friendly. We lack public transportation just as
many cities do and a car is a necessity. This is not a
good thing but hopefully it will be solved sometime soon.

The old warehouse section of the city has been converted
into convention centers and a ball park. There are a lot
of new hotels and a lot of loft space has become available
for people who want down town living. The South Canadian river has been renamed the Oklahoma River and there are
a lot of water activities in conjunction with it.

The old and partially deserted section called Double Deuce
is in the planning stage for apartments and hotels.

We rarely leave our suburb for downtown but just knowing
that we have access to it's amenities is helpful. There
are lots of good places to eat and the cultural opportunities abound.

Jerms and Red Impala could tell you more. It is an excellent place to retire.

Las Vegas was recently found to be the dumbest city, beating out Fresno, Calif, and unemployment is 15%. The dumbest city decision is based on number of library books read and how many people have advanced college degrees. I think Las Vegas deserves this label, by the way, but I'm not really from here, just visiting. Reminds me of Monopoly, the Jail box with the "Visiting" on the edges.

I Googled Oklahoma City and looked at some of the images. It looks like a nice place to live.

This was a great post. I think it makes us all take a second glance at our own home states...or province, in my case.

Whenever I hear the name of your city, immediately the musical jumps into my head - who was the star of the film version? Wasn't it the guy who became the second husband of Barbara Belle Geddes in Dallas? I can see his face . . . . .

I've never really visited O.C. Just passed through. Enjoyed your "tribute". And learned something new--river name change!

That sounds wonderful! I haven't ever been - perhaps worth a visit!

My son once said that no matter how hard he tried he could never seem to be satisfied with living in any other states but Ok. and Texas. Believe me, he tried them all.

The one big drawback to Oklahoma is the Republican mentality. However, that is not necessarily true of Oklahoma City, which often votes Democratic. The rural areas are the big problem in terms of Conservatism.

I know how conservative everyone is. And I hate our new Gov. Brad Henry
was such a good one.

Sounds lovely, but like our area, a mixed bag. Didn't you suggest, recently, that there is too much Evangelism? If I had a retro choice, I would not come down here but would choose a university area with northern sensibilities. So I'm not on the water. At least my brain wouldn't be bombarded with sanctimony.

I think everybody professes religion but very few people seem to practice
it. It is in the heart of the bible belt. We do have OCU that has a marvelous music and drama program and access to O. U. and their fine arts
events.
