Gentle Amusements

My morning routine starts with coffee, the blog and a walk
as soon before seven a.m. as I can, before the heat over
takes me. I always enjoy my walk and the funniest thing
that I have seen concerns a very clever dog. About seven
a.m., he ruturns from his night of freedom and jumps back
into his own back yard. This happens every morning and I
believe his owners are unaware of his trick. He is large but
very agile and to see him teeter on the chain link fence before he returns home is a sight to see.

I see the same people every day. One woman has a pair of
little dogs and she dresses the girl dog in little hot pink
dresses. We always chat a minute. One neighbor lives
a few houses from me and has a long white beard and long
white hair and is possibly the fittest man that I see. He is
quite handsome and usually jogs in a black out fit. We wave in passing. I see him a long way from home. This
morning he was weaaring a knit cap a la Nittenneedles and
I couldn't imagine why. Then there is a couple who have
two Golden Retrievers. Two is one too many. They
struggle with them every morning but the struggle is so
exhausting that they don't go far. One of the dog walkers
never fails to exercise her large dog of uncertain parentage.
I like her, she is very nice.

When I get home I have to water, always longing for my
second cup of coffee. There wouldn't be a green spot in
my yard if I didn't. Ted is a late riser so he needs breakfast
after I finish. I keep water out for the birds and lots of
them inhabit my yard. I love to watch them drink and
bathe.

Sounds like a cute neighborhood, I am glad everyone seems friendly! That story about the dog escaping and coming home in the morning cracked me up, although I certainly hope nothing happens to him...

The early morning is such a lovely time of day and really in the Oklahoma and Texas heat, the only time one can enjoy the outdoors.

I love your dog stories. I worry about the dog who stays out all night, thinking something might happen to him and his people wouldn't know. I rarely walk really early any more. My most useful routine was to walk to the park and do ballet work on the pier railing. I don't have the energy to do that any more. I do the ballet work at home on the floor and I try to walk later if it's not too hot.

On my morning jog, I had "encounters" with two dogs (and a rabbit). I carry a club with me just in case (for the dogs, not the rabbits). Then I had French toast and coffee!!

It is distressing to hear that your interaction with dogs is so fraught with uncertainty that you have to carry a club. Maybe the dogs around here are just nicer. I love them all and they are always happy to see me.

I like the idea of the dog who has a second life, and pink dresses for dogs. In the midwest people put a concrete goose on their front porch and dress it in different outfits to match the seasons. There are whole stores devoted to those clothes and someone started one in Denver, but it didn't catch on. I wonder if Quackers would stand still for trying on clothes.

I think Quackers would probably wear a dress. Ruth had outfits for her
stuffed geese for all seasons. That dog has a secret life. Just like some
cats who live at two houses.

No the toque is fashionable among these young people.Have nothing to do with washing the hair. They are making a fashion statement.
comment by fredo on July 21, 2012 9:27 AM ()
This was not a fashion statement although he may have thought so. It
was made like a helmet. It ruined his look.

He wore the toque because he didn't have time to wash his hair?
I wish I was a morning person.

I am a morning person married to a night person, or correction, one who
used to be a night person.

What a pleasant morning! I will have to come by and read this more often. It was very pleasant to "walk" with you today.!

The early morning is my time...and I really enjoy it. Those of us who get
out early have a sort of kinship because we know we are beating the heat.
