The Birds Are Getting Out of Hand.

The birds are particularly glutenous this spring. The have
already gone through about 30 pounds of bird seed and our
feeder has to be constantly refilled. It holds seven cups
of seed and is squirrel proof. They are fun to watch and
afford us a lot of entertainment.

The cardinal's wife has a nest on the car port and scolds
me every time I get in the car or sweep the sidewalk. The
babies are fully feathered and look about ready for flight
school.

She shares the carport with another bird who is an excellent
nest builder. I brush Rex outside and his fur makes cozy
linings for their nests. That bird is much more diplomatic
and doesn't screech at me every time I walk past. Mrs. Cardinal has a very sloppy, droopy nest as well as a quarrelsome personality.

The mocking bird has a nest in the holly tree and she is
prone to dive bombing all who enter. She particularly hates
men. I think their size threatens her.

Laura has all those beautiful humming birds that keep her
concocting red nectar all summer long but aside from the
robins and the cardinals ours aren't that pretty.

I hear a lot of bird chatter but can't identify them. Mostly little black/brown ones. The big birds are easier to spot -- pelicans, egrets, osprey, ibis, woods storks -- they sometimes invade the lawn. I love them all.

I love ur analogy, the bird scolds you... I have been dive bombed before as well and it's not too fun.

It is not easy being dissed by a bird! Hug little Skylar for me. How I
would love to baby sit for you!

Aren't wild birds ravenous?! We have four feeders and I'm constantly refilling them. I miss cardinals; we don't have 'em here. But we have lots of others and I love watching them.

I have just filled the feeder and I look out a little later and it is empty
again and they are fighting over the last bits of grain. It gives me
a lot of pleasure to watch them.

We have an open baseball diamond behind our house and it is paradise for
squirrels and birds.

You made me laugh talking about the mockingbird. One lived in my front tree and he/she would dive-bomb us every time we tried to leave the house. That darn bird used to chase my dog and attacked the mailman too.

Mockingbirds are the most aggressive mama birds. They don't seem to realize
they have to share with us.

We had robins in the nest that disappeared 4 days after they hatched, but that was it this spring. I don't mind sharing space in the garage as long as they don't "hit' the vehicles.

I used to get so aggravated because they would try to nest in potted plants
when we lived at the farm. I don't mind sharing but that was too much.

I wish we had cardinals and mocking birds here. (The humming bird juice is clear - the feeders have red on them, and that is enough to attract the birds.)
