My Mother ...

I haven't written much about my mother this year because she hasn't done many funny things this year. I've been worried from the time she returned from Florida, when she got lost on the way to my house.

The final straw occurred in September when I dropped in unexpectedly. When she opened the door, she didn't recognize me for the first split second.

Her doctor wouldn't see me without her so I was at a loss about how to get her some kind of help.

I talked her into attending a free memory screening by saying I needed to go because of my own problems. I passed. She didn't. She got a letter to give to her doctor, but she won't go to him.

There's a history of Alzheimer's in the family; her mother and sister died at age 78 from it. She is 77 now.

Now I need to be even more diplomatic. I've got to convince her to see her doctor right away, not six months from now.

yikes. I hope you can convince her to go sooner rather than later, but I can imagine what an undertaking that is...

You may have to find a way to get her to the doctors.
sort of a fun thing with her. This is tough and very tough with this type

Is she taking Aricept? They began giving it to my Mom a couple months ago but I have noticed no difference. Her dementia is about short-term memory. I am taking her out for burgers today. We usually go to buffet brunch Sundays but my landlord invited me to their place for dinner tomorrow, so I can't take her Sunday. Thanksgiving we are having the big buffet at the brunch restaurant.

Give your mom a hug from me and Hobbes.

I experienced "the long goodbye" with my late first husband. Nothing is more painful than this. My heart is with you. Your mom's afraid. Tell her tremendous advances have been made and can help her if she goes now before she gets worse. When I see how medical assistance has advanced I have feelings of anguish they were to late to help Jay.

Sorry to hear about this. I'm forever grateful neither parent had memory loss.
