Clyde update

I guess I finally convinced the rescue owner (I'll call her MV from now on) that talking on the phone with someone is different from meeting them in person. She sent an email to Bonnie, Clyde's new owner. She answered right away and this is the part of her reply that was forwarded to me:

"Clyde did great for his first night.  He slept with my daughter, and seems to be attached to her. He did wag his tail for the first time when I got home from work in the morning.  I am certain that we will bring him out of his shell, it will just take a little time.

Eighteen hours before he wagged his tail? He slept with the daughter who didn't want anything to do with him yesterday and now he "seems attached to her?" Then why didn't he wag for her?

He wagged for me as soon as we walked through the front door.

I know, it probably sounds like I'm nitpicking but I worked very hard at socializing him and introducing him to people and going places. He was fine! He never growled at anyone and wagged his tail for all but the carpet cleaner. He was fascinated with other dogs and friendly to them unless they were somehow intimidating.

Anyway, MV said she would keep a much closer eye on the situation than she does other "adoptees" but she said, "It's a done deal. I can't go to her and say, sorry you can't have the dog after all."

It looks as though he'll be theirs forever. I hate to think of him being so unhappy.

Maybe Clyde just needs a chance to get aclimated to his new surroundings. Maybe then he'll start wagging his tail more. I sure hope so.

Hey girl, never saw a dog like that (tho don't know much
about dogs anyway.) What's that bandage on your left arm?
Are you okay? Things have a way of working out--it's wait
and see for now.

He's such a pretty dog. If the woman decides Clyde is not what she was looking for, hopefully she'll bring him back and not pass him on to someone else. Nice 'sun' glasses.

I know the feeling there.Had the same problems with Buffy.
But finally stuck it out and know that he has some good
quality.I was ready to send him back.
Spend a lot of money on him in training and taking care of
Him and eight years later,a long wait to me it is worth it.
I overlook the things that he did.
Now he with me all the time when home and will not leave me
alone, just want to be near me.

We had a dachshund/spaniel cross who was terrified of any male over the age of 12 due to her former owner's abuse. It took Nicky two weeks to warm up to DH. She was supposed to be DD#1's pet but she attached herself to me and howled when I left her at home to go shopping. Clyde has her eyes. She had almost 17 happy years with us.

kudos for trying and making them aware that they need to do more investigating into where the pups are going...

Just possibly he was sad because he sensed he wouldn't
be with you? Maybe no one could have gotten a response.
Let's hope that was the case, but it's good MV will keep
an eye out. Sometimes animals bond with a particular person
right away. If they don't, that doesn't necessarily mean
they sense abuse coming. My Chewy follows me around
and has from day one. Ed is super good to him and it
has taken a year for him to purr for Ed. I said probably
his first close person was a woman. Isn't it a good sign
that the dog slept with the child? Do you think the
woman was lying?
